Listing Details: Ion Theatre Company is extremely dedicated to showing the passion of artistic work to the audience. The theatre was founded in 2004 and used 6th@Penn Theatre for its initial venue. The company’s first apparent production that was directed towards social issues was A Raisin in the Sun; specifically put on the stage to campaign awareness of housing discrimination issues arising everywhere. Since the birth of the Ion Theatre Company, it has won many awards and has been recognized by many. In 2007, the Ion Theatre took on a renovation of a dance studio space in Mission Valley to transform the empty space into a theatre. This new project was completed and took on the name “The Lab,” and has been the home of eleven productions. Ion embraces diversity and tries to be a public advocate for equality and inclusiveness. Because of this mission, the theatre is culturally evolving and tries to educate local communities about the beauty of diversity and love.
