Editorial Review of Thee Bungalow

Thee Bungalow is located in a calm neighborhood in Ocean Beach, on the cusp of Point Loma. For over 30 years Thee Bungalow has mastered an old country bungalow atmosphere enhanced by specialty dishes such as the rack of lamb and roast duck. Fresh seafood and prime grade beef is also served; paired with a moderately priced global wine list and a full bar. Choose between four intimate dining rooms for a romantic evening, or reserve your own room for a small party. Ocean Beach locals fear to share this seaside secret with San Diego at large; from consistent, classic food to a high quality, friendly staff, Thee Bungalow never disappoints.

Thee Bungalow was great! Celebrated our 25th anniversary and was not let down. Best scallops so far we’ve ever tasted, the special 8oz steak cook perfectly the way I like it. Even though the signature dessert is the Bittersweet Mousseline au Chocolat, their fairly new dessert Mousseline Choc Torte was an explosion of flavor and texture my wife and I have never tasted before. Our waitress Tina forwarded our excitement to Chef Niles and he took the time to greet us and briefly explain his creation.

Added 04/29/09 Over priced, mediocre phony French food

The restaurant offers good service but the food is nowhere close to be called “cuisine”. The menu is way overpriced and the quality is one step below mediocre. To the worst, there are many fake good reviews out there written by some very suspicious characters. Several websites simply won’t post any strong negative reviews. Keep in mind, the owner of Thee Bungalow, the Cohn restaurant group own many over-priced restaurants in San Diego. Most of my reviews are either never posted or removed shortly after posting. So if you can read this. Take my word for it, avoid Thee Bungalows at any price!

Added 02/16/09 Just doesn't cut it!

We were SO disappointed! Way overpriced for everything from the house wines to the unimaginative entrees to the minuiscule portions and boring desserts. This is one of San Diego's top 10 romantic restaurants?? Wow! That leaves the door wide open for someone to take over their spot then! We have traveled all over the country and dined in dozens and dozens of places that were better in terms of food and charming ambience!

Added 01/17/08 Thee Bungalow is the best French Cuisine in San Diego

First of all, let me say the building is too cute. It's rustic old-school French charm at its best. You don't need to be dressed up fancy to be treated classy here either. The duck is exquisite, moist and tender and just perfect. The waiters know exactly what wine will best match your dish and the selection is fantastic, and they are so pleasant and love to let you know anything you need to know about the menu. The pate dishes are by far the best in San Diego and the chocolate soufflé is the best in probably the world. It was just amazing, words fall short.
