Editorial Review of The Lincoln Room

It’s the end of an era … Confidential Restaurant + Loft has officially closed its doors to make way for a brand new casual dining concept. The Lincoln Room can be simply referred to as an Americanized La Puerta, boasting the same community-driven vision, with a distinctive old fashion American flair ... and a little less Tequila. Wave goodbye to the sleek white couches, signature shiny disco ball, and revolving entertainment schemes; Powell and Moore are going back to basics for the new future of this Fourth Avenue staple. Out with flashy gimmicks and in with straight-forward hospitality and straight-up consistency. The stark black Lincoln Room already has a personality all its own, showcasing an interior made almost entirely of Montana wood logs, with playful penny-laid bars and table tops and a giant “Lincoln” sign that shines in bright white lights, paying homage to San Diego’s historic Balboa Theatre just across the street.

Chef Chris Walsh is heading back to the Confidential kitchen, prepping a new menu of modern takes on classic American dishes, while giving a nod to certain old school Confi favs that no one can live without. For serious … threats were made! Anyone who had Confidential’s signature Bacon Wrapped Dates or Ahi Tuna Tartar knows that I’m talking about it. Chris Walsh’s new American menu will feature accessible Southern California inspired American dishes, made with simple, quality ingredients. And yes … we already told you, you will have your damn Dates back! Relax. As for drinks, The Lincoln Room will be pouring ‘em stiff and without a 20-minute waiting period. All industry pretension aside, The Lincoln Room will offer a menu of classic American cocktails as well as a variety of local San Diego beers and a great selection of affordable and boutique wines by the glass.

This place must have just opened because I don't know how I would have missed it. Perfect because upscale casual is my new favorite motif, haha. Everything I ingested was great...I just wish I could still remember what it all way. Just an excuse to go back again.
