Editorial Review of Sprinkles Cupcakes

Opening originally in the swanky Beverly Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles, Sprinkles Cupcakes has finally decided to spread their love south to San Diego. Critically hailed, the “world’s first cupcake bakery” according to Food Network, Sprinkles is credited with starting the recent cupcake craze. The menu is always evolving, boasting more than 20 popular flavors that rotate daily, including Red Velvet, Cinnamon Sugar, Strawberry, Chocolate Marshmallow and Raspberry Chocolate Chip. Each crafted cupcake is commonly adorned with their trademark dotted sprinkles, created from rich chocolate from France, or perhaps a sugary seasonal decoration. Sprinkles bakes small batches of fresh cupcakes throughout the day, every day, using the finest ingredients without preservatives, trans fats or artificial flavors. This process ensures a fresh, sweet tasting cupcake every single time that takes it easy on the waistline and the wallet. Check out their website for the rotating schedule of cupcakes, as some flavors are only available on certain days or through certain times of the year. Sprinkles even has cupcakes for those with dietary restrictions, serving up both Vegan and Gluten free options. Buy one or a dozen! Customized cupcake towers, trays, or gift boxes are also available for large groups or events and create an eye-catching display that will be hard to forget. Delivery options are also available, so you don’t have to handle the delicate creations by yourself and leave it to the hands of the experts. Skip the line and place your order in advance by using their new smart phone application; simply pick up and pig out!

Added 05/18/11 Cupcakes schmacakes...

I really don't get what they hype is about these cupcakes. To be so honest, I think homemade cupcakes taste alot better than Sprinkles. The frosting on the cupcakes are sooooo thick and sugary that it doesn't really make up for the cupcake itself. Not to mention, the line that is usually there, it's really just not worth my 3.75 (give or take) to wait in a long line and not get that great of a cupcake. The store is nice and quaint though and the people that work there are very nice and pleasant.

Added 05/11/11 Ridiculous Line

When Sprinkles first opened in La Jolla, it was literally a 2 hour wait. Now that the line has calmed down, it doesn't take as long and is so worth it! And better yet, you get a free cupcake if you whisper the secret word. A little wait is a small price to pay for little bits of deliciousness.

I come here after work sometimes at the request of a special someone. The line is usually wrapped outside the door, but moves pretty quickly. Once you get a taste, you'll be prepared to hop back in line for another one.
