That Spices Thai Café is famed for their spicy food is a given, but remember: all dishes can be toned down upon request. Spices’ cuisine is authentically Thai and richly complex, all without the use of MSG. Staff are exceedingly gracious, and will always appreciate a Sawatdee-Kaa (women) or -Krahb (men).
Veggies Tempura takes a Thai twist with plum sauce and crushed peanuts. The crunchy Mee Krob, made notorious by an episode of South Park, is actually delicious. Don’t tell your rubber ducky about the Spices’ Duckling—half a crispy duck with spicy sauce and basil. The tame will love the Pattaya Pineapple, stuffed with chicken, shrimp, and cashew nuts, while the more enterprising might dare to try the deep-fried frog legs.
My husband and I ate here for dinner yesterday. He ordered the phad thai special. After a few bites, he pulled a long string out of his mouth. The string was grey and had a know tied in the middle. It looked exactly like a piece of a mop! When we told the waiter, he apologized, removed the string from the table, and offered us a 20% discount. We calmly said that we didn't want to pay for his meal at all. We asked for the manager and the waiter said the manager wasn't there and that his manager wouldn't be happy if he gave us anymore of a discount. We ended up paying for my meal even though both of us had lost our appetites completely by then. We believe they should have comped our entire meal. When we got home, my husband felt sick and has now been up since 4am with vomiting and diarrhea.
