Editorial Review of Solare Ristorante and Lounge

As soon as Liberty Station was scheduled to open, restaurants galore flooded the area, prepared to please the new residents with their own culinary masterpieces. Owner and Chef of Cafe Bella Italia, Stefano Ceresoli, was no exception, and soon he set to open his second restaurant, Solare.
Solare seeks to take contemporary gourmet Italian cuisine and blend it with Mediterranean flavors and an Asian décor. The goal is to have a relaxing and zen atmosphere paired with some of the most flavorful Italian dishes in the city, creating a total “infusion for the senses.”
The glass wine room serves to be the focal point of the diner with an excellent selection sure to pair wonderfully with any dish coming out of Ceresoli's kitchen that uses only the freshest fish and hormone free meats.

Added 02/22/10 dinner review

My friend won dinner for her friends through a silent auction. It was held in the bar area. The decor was superb and the bartender did a wonderful job taking care of us. On the other hand, the food was less than adequate. The salad served was tasty, but was not enough quantity to serve everyone. The pizza was soggy and tasteless. I was expecting at least a chicken dish. Our main course was penne pasta with sauce, which was good, but not substantial enough. The foccacia was salty and the skewers of mozzerella and tomatoes bland. I expected a better representation of their cuisine. Obviously, they were trying to skimp on the quantity , quality and cost.

Added 07/08/08 Very Impressed

We enjoyed our dinner visit to Solare. The food was great and so was the service. There was a nice sized crowd for a Thursday evening and the lounge area was a blast to hang out in and get to know people. The outdoor patio is a nice place to eat or just have a cocktail and relax. They had a Flamenco Trio there as well that added alot to the ambience.

Loved It!

My wife and I went there on a Saturday afternoon. We split a penne pasta dish. The sauce on that was out of this world. The executive chef, Mark, is a genius! Friendly staff. Great service.

we were the only one eating in the restaurant and yet our order still managed to be overcooked. The manager, who is not Italian but French I think, was arragant and rude. Theirs too many nice restaurants in San Diego to waste your time on this one.

Added 05/11/08 If you like poor service...

If you like poor service, this is a great place. However, if you appreciate decent food and friendly wait staff, this is not the place to eat. The wait for dinner was too long. The portions were small. And worst of all, the customer service was horrible.

I really liked this restaurant and think once they have a few of the opening kinks fixed it will be one of my favorite places. I had the pumpkin ravoli and it was plate licking good. The service was wonderful and the decor was very different but warm and appealing. The manager came by to make sure we were happy and we had a nice conversation. I did not think it was too pricey based on what I ordered and will definitely return with more friends. The kinks I referred to involved finding their phone number to make a reservation.

Added 04/14/08 Great Lunch Spot

I just returned from my second lunch visit to Solare. The menu is varied and the food is terrific. I love sitting on the porch. You must try it.
