Editorial Review of Sea Rocket Bistro

When in-the-know locals crave true local flavor with ingredients sourced directly from fishermen and ranchers in San Diego, we head to Sea Rocket Bistro in North Park. This bistro boasts sustainable seafood, organic produce and pastured meats, as well as local craft beers and California wines in a casual-cool setting featuring a gallery of local artwork on the wall, located on North Park’s unofficial “Restaurant Row” along 30th Street.

Sea Rocket Bistro offers an ever-changing menu of fresh, local and regional ingredients. The menu is known to change along with the seasons, and recently, market fish has included yellowtail, mahi mahi, white sea bass, rock cod, snapper, yellowtail, California halibut, swordfish, opah, and Pacific snapper. Start with the Gouda Garlic Baked Oysters - four Summer Oysters from Carlsbad Aqua Farm baked with garlic butter, breadcrumbs and shaved Winchester Gouda cheese until melted and browned. Then move on to one of the signature entrees, including Seared Baja Jumbo Diver Scallops served atop sauteed greens and mashed potatoes; Shellfish Pasta - fettucini from Assenti's Pasta tossed with clams, mussels and diced vegetables in a light white wine & butter sauce; or Grilled Burger - made with beef, lamb or pork depending on supply - 1/3 lb seasoned ground lamb patty served with the usual fixins on ciabatta bread, served with side salad.

Added 02/09/11 Poor service & undetailed menu

I went here about couple of months ago and it was a bad time to go. I believe the restaurant staff was having a party. So upon entering we stood around inside for a couple minutes before someone at the bar noticed us and sat us. It was another 5 minutes before we could order drinks. It felt like forever before we received our drinks and placed our order. I had ordered the potato leek soup, sounds simple and delicious, but they did not write that it had curry in it. Curry, in any dish, is loud enough that it should be mentioned in the description. Despite the surpise curry the soup was OK. The wait between soup and dinner was ridiculous, the staff were completely preoccupied. We sat next to where the food sits before the waiter delivers it and saw our food sitting there for ten minutes before someone finally came around to pick it up. Forget re-fills on anything. I had been to this place once before and liked it, but after this, I don't think I will ever go back or recommend it.

Added 07/15/10 A Delite!

Fresh seafood and farmer's market produce make dining here a delight. Scallops were a tasty treat. Service was also delightful and helpful.
