Editorial Review:
Taking over the former EXY space in downtown San Diego is Quality Social – a sophisticated dive bar concept from Chicago industry leaders. What if all your favorite elements of a classic neighborhood bar were elevated to new luxury standards? Take Pabst Blue Ribbon drink specials and oversize red vinyl booths and add in live art installations, American-European street food with 100% local ingredients and oh-so-much-more. Quality Social isn’t trying to be a dive bar – it’s a playful juxtaposition of all that we love about neighborhood dives, presented in a new Quality light with no detail spared. With Boones Farm on the menu, a speakeasy in the back, a menu created by a Top Chef recruit who travels with salami in his suit case, a vintage photo booth on display and a champagne parlor in the see-through ladies bathroom, Quality Social invites you to embrace the deliberate contradictions and create your own experience, starting March 2010.

AMAZING food

I absolutely LOVED the food at Quality Social. The mac and cheese is definitely my favorite, add their homemade hot sauce, even better! I am grossed out by hot dogs, but a friend said I had to try it because it is house-made as well - The only place I'll ever eat a hot dog from is from Quality, it's a delicious Chicago style dog. Their fries are better than McDonalds (which is big for me) and sandwiches are just as good. I certainly recommend going!

Questionable Quality Social

About a week ago, I wandered by the southeast corner of 6th & F, where the prior restaurant, EXY, had closed some time ago. The name on the awnings was 'Quality Social'. The door was open so I wandered in. There were 4 fellers sitting around talking. There are 2 bars, tables & chairs, so I assumed it was a new restaurant. I was right! I asked lots of questions & learned their main focus is Happy Hour, $5 call drinks, special prices on Chacuterie (per Webster's, a delicatessen specializing in dressed meats and meat dishes; also : the products sold in such a shop). I later spoke to a friend who heard from someone that this was a good place. They open at 5 PM. On Friday, we wandered over to check it out. It is a large space with plenty of room, in case they ever need it. There are a few tables & stools outside. The high stools look uncomfortable and maybe would be better in "Wonderland (Alice)". We wandered inside and to the left, past the bar where there are maybe 6 booths. We took a booth in the middle. A waitress brought over the menus and gave a rather poor explanation on ordering. Under the heading Chacuterie, there are about 12 items listed. Underneath it states: collection 4 for $10, individual selections, $5. This is not an extensive menu and is best for Happy Hour. We ordered drinks. I had a margarita, in a small rocks glass with lots of rocks. The drink was good, but it was about 1/2 size of a normal drink. My friend ordered a glass of wine. It was a generous pour and she enjoyed it. I had picked out 4 items from the Chacuterie list and the waitress explained that the chef picks out the 'collection' each day. I advised the menu should state that. She agreed but said that was the way it is done. She pointed out my choices and I ordered them. DW (my friend) decided to go to the other side (not with Darth Vader, the other side of the menu!). She ordered tomato soup & grilled cheese sandwich. I have never had deviled egg in a r

Simply A W E S O M E and magnificent

Social Quality is superb. I just came back from the soft opening Grand Opening Party. The decor is right on for a classy dive bar. The food was delicious. The service was excellent...Brittany the Cocktail Bar Waitress made my friends and myself a memorable night...she was very hospitable and efficient with our drinks. Amy the manageress was also very pleasant. Looking forward to visiting again. Best wishes and Good Luck. Nomination for best bar in San Diego from The Global Hospitality Awards is already in.
