Laurel
Despite being located on the business oriented neighborhood of Fifth Avenue, the Laurel Restaurant offers a completely unexpected, whimsical dining experience. Stepping into the contemporary interior, reminiscent of a swinging cosmopolitan eatery such as that of mid-town New York or San Francisco, will transport you to a luxurious haven singularly preserved for gourmet cuisine.
The cuisine is a stylish fusion of French and Mediterranean, with a dash of Japanese. The soup of the day changes according to the chef's fancy, and the 3-course deal at $35 allows you to "put yourself in the hands of the big guy." Fun items on the menu are the Crispy Skin Wild Salmon, lacquered in grapefruit and topped with asparagus consommé, and the Duck Confit, accompanied by a cauliflower and hazelnut oil puree.
In addition to the stunning dinner selection, Laurel also offers a pretty famous happy hour, named Happy Hour of the Week by the San Diego Union Tribune. The Seven before 7 happy hour special is a series of seven drinks and seven plates, for the modest price of $7 each.
