La Jolla Strip Club, a steak place famed for filling eats and drinks, is kicking off an ongoing night made just for the ladies- Manicure...more

For years downtown districts have lead the industry in “grill-your-own” concept dining establishments, with favorites including Gaslamp ...more
We went to La Jolla Strip Club to celebrate my husband's birthday with family and friends. Our server was quick to come to the table and she was delightful. Cooking our own steaks was not only great fun, but we all thought the entire meal was delicious!
Our waitress Ally was so polite and attentive it was amazing!
I went into the strip club last night with a few friends for dinner. The atmosphere, was impressive, it was extremely trendy which was fun. After being sat, I waited, waited for drinks, waited for food, waited long periods of time for everything. When the sides came out, they were extremely late (almost done with the meal) and were luke warm at best. The management failed to come over and help resolve the issue. I was severely disappointed especially because I was so excited to initially go to the restaurant. Also, for what it is---OVERPRICED!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! THIS RESTAURANT IS **HORRIBLE** UNLESS YOU'RE A PROFESSIONAL CHEF OR A HARD-CORE ALCHOHOLIC. The menu outside lists all kinds of tasty items (burgers, steak, etc.) so I figured hey, I'll give this place a try. So I sit down and order a Sprite. The waitress totally forgets about me for a while and eventually brings me a water. Strike One. I'm about ready to order a burger but I can't find it anywhere on the menu. All of the delicious entrees they had on the menu outside were missing. In their place was an endless list of liquor. And I mean the hard stuff (e.g. Vodka); the stuff you'd expect your local street bum or alcoholic father to own. For food? Hope you like steak. The whole deceptive menu thing was Strike Two. "What the heck, I'll try to make the best of this ?" I thought. " I'll order some meat." Waited... waited. Eventually the waitress comes back with (are you ready for this?) a RAW PIECE OF MEAT. No joke! At this restaurant they expect the customers to cook their own food! They basically hand you some raw meat and send you over to a grill to cook it yourself. And that was the point where I walked out. I'll conclude with a question. What kind of sane person would willingly dine in an establishment where they're expected to cook their own food? MAYBE if you were a professional chef you MIGHT be into it but even then, probably not. Bottom line is that only two types of people could possibly enjoy this place: professional chefs and hard-core alcoholics. Everyone else should realize the obvious; This place is a scam and should be avoided like the plague!
First off if you would have done a little research a part of the appeal of the Strip Club is the environment and cooking your own food. I thought it was an excellent experience and our group of friends had a great time hanging out while we were cooking our steak, if you want a burger then go to a burger joint not a steak place. Step out of the box a little....
Sorry, friend, but there's nothing "charming" about paying to cook your own food. People go to restaurants to have someone ELSE cook the food. Not quite sure how to interpret your Vodka Lounge comment. Virtually every restaurant I frequent serves alcohol of some sort. I don't really have a problem with that. But this is the only one that's hard-core enough to have a "21+ only" sign. You're basically mixing a bunch of people to whom hard liquor is appealing (e.g. alcoholics) and letting them play around on a hot grill while they try to cook their own raw meat. Can you say "lawsuit waiting to happen"? Don't take my word for it. Walk by this place if you're in the UTC area. Look inside. No one is eating there! The place is virtually empty every time I walk by. Hmm.. I wonder why. This place is a train wreck and has already become a joke among the locals. Once you've looked inside and had a good laugh, walk a few feet south to Roy's and get a delicious meal from real chefs who (gasp!) actually cook food for their customers. This restaurant's only path to success is to capture some of the people who are turned away from Roy's on busy nights. I don't think that strategy will work though; I went to Roy's on a week night a few weeks ago and despite the fact it was packed, The Strip Club had only two customers. If this place is still in business one year from now (highly unlikely!) I guess I'll have to eat my words... after cooking them by hand on the the Strip Club's grill.
The cook-your-own restaurant concept is hardly anything new. In San Diego there are ton of them. The Turf Supper Club is by far the most popular. The charm is being able to have your steak EXACTLY the way you like. Regarding the comments about you being shocked about the amount of alcohol they have here. Exactly what part of the VODKA LOUNGE sign did you miss??
