Kaiserhof Restaurant and Biergarten is the San Diego dining spot to satisfy your meat and beer cravings on the beautiful ocean front. Kaiserhof also provides an outdoor wunderbar, so you can slake your thirst in the San Diego heat with a long swig of authentic German beer.
The authentic family restaurant specializes in German veal such as the Wiener Schnitzel, a breaded milk fed veal cutled and sauteed in butter, and the Jager Schnitzel, sauteed with a mushroom cream sauce. Also notable items are the Roasted Pork Shank, and of course the indispensable German sausage in the form of the Wurst Platte, a sausage sampler special featuring bratwurst, knackwurst, and bauerwurst, and served with sides of sauerkraut and red potatoes.
We feel bad in reporting that although the waiter was great and the cozy atmosphere nice on a cold night, the food didn't live up to expectation. The appetizer and salad were good, but the main courses were over cooked, dry and not flavorful. The waiter served the wine and food with great attention, added a slice of BD cake, just disappointed in the entres.
Although the food and beer was okay, the service was not, especially the rude guy who seemed to be running it that night. He may have owned it for all I know, but I can't imagine anyone owning a place and acting that dumb, petty, and abusive to people who were spending money; you know, customers?! I let it go out of respect for the people I was with, since I was their guest and they live there. I doubt they ever went back, and I certainly wouldn't.
