Editorial Review of
Jimmy Carter's Mexican Cafe
Opened in 2005 not by the former US President, but by San Diego native Jimmy Carter, Jimmy Carter's Mexican Café is a local favorite that serves traditional as well as innovative Mexican cuisine. Furthermore, not everything on the menu is limited to Mexico; American, Chinese, and Indian origins are also readily available on the wide-spread menu.
Cheese enchiladas and other staple dishes on the southern border are often ordered at Carter's, but so are Shrimp and Crab enchiladas, spicy mushroom quesadillas, and what Carter himself calls "truly special specialties," such as the chorizo and egg scramble breakfast combination. However, think twice before trying the restaurant's original sauce. The tlaquapaque has a seriously spicy mayonnaise base, peppered with plenty of jalapeno seeds.
