With strong origins in Barlassina, Italy in 1972, the Il Fornaio chain of authentic Italian restaurants and bakeries has steadily grown over the years throughout California in San Francisco, Manhattan Beach, Walnut Creek, Santa Monica, and two locations in San Diego. The Del Mar location is a fine dining fixture in the Del Mar Plaza overlooking downtown Del Mar at 15th Street. The dining room, piazza, and indoor bar all offer fine accommodations for the renowned Italian cuisine paired with a sunning second floor ocean view. Favorite entrees include the Paccheri Gratinati Con Romanesco with wide pasta tubes and Romanesco broccoli, truffled mushrooms, gorgonzola, cream, and parmesan cheese, baked in the oven, and the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a grilled 22 oz. porterhouse steak with organic sautéed spinach, roasted Yukon Gold potatoes and uccelletta cannelloni beans.
