Editorial Review of Crossroads at House of Blues

Crossroads is the all new dining experience at House of Blues San Diego. The new menu was created by celebrity chefAaron Sanchez, found on several Food Network programs, such as Heat Seekers, Chopped, and Best Thing I Ever Ate. The menu combines international dishes with updated, classic staples from the previous menu. Relax HOB lovers, favorites such as Jambalaya and Shrimp and Grits aren’t going anywhere; rather, they are getting improved with fresh takes from Chef Aaron. Soul food takes center stage at Crossroads, with delicious items such as Cornbread with Maple Butter, Pulled Pork Sliders, Basil Pesto and Tomato Flatbread, Street Tacos, Meatball Sliders, Seared Tuna Tostadas, Chile Braised Short Ribs, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Smoked BBQ Bacon Burger, and Bourbon Bread Pudding. Playing off the name, the interior of Crossroads is a place where intersections and highways reign. Antique road signs from all over the world can be found hanging on the walls, along with American roadmaps. The traveler’s delight of maps and signs mix well with the House of Blues signature folk-art feel, and make sense when presented with the simple, memorable cuisine.

Added 09/27/11 Pesto Flatbread & Steak Salad

We went in for lunch today at the new Crossroads at HOB. The Pesto Flatbread was excellent and filling enough so we split a Steak Salad. Good portion sizes, so much so that we didn't have room for dessert. But there's always next time!

Added 04/20/11 Not just Blues!

House of Blues is basically your run-of-the-mill music venue, but it also features a southern-inspired menu. It's located downtown, which can make the experience more exciting. House of Blues features a lot of diversity in their shows (KT Tunstall and Boys II Men, for example!) most of which don't interest me, unfortunately. Once in a while there will be something that excites me, though. But for those who are interested in "Led Zepagain," featuring none other than "Red Not Chili Peppers," check out the concert line-up.

Added 04/19/11 As expected

House of Blues San Diego isn't very different from their other locations, so most of you should already know what to expect. I have been here to see plenty of shows and is one of the few San Diego venues hosting AAA artists. Drinks are expensive, but the sound quality during performances is incredible. The only huge complaint I have about this place is that the box office window is only open during shows. Stop forcing me through Ticketmaster!

Added 04/12/11 Great food + live music

House of Blues is situated in downtown which makes it a fun and energetic place. The food has a southern twist which is great and the live music makes the experience that much better. This is a great place to hang out with a bunch of friends.

Added 07/30/07 House of Blues in SD Gaslamp

With a name like House of Blues, you'd think the venue only features Blues music. That's where you'd be wrong (assuming you have never visited HOB). HOB in Gaslamp features a wide range of live bands from hip hop to metal to emo shiz playing in the lower-floor stage area. You will find bands both local, national, and even international. The audience area by the stage is large and there is a bar nearby so you can swig on a drink as you enjoy he music. A second bar can also be found in the dining section of HOB. The ground-floor restaurant section of House of Blues has very average food. I would definitely eat somewhere else, but it is worth a try just to see if you can find something good. The waiters and waitresses in the dining area are really outgoing and help make you forget how sub-par the food is.
