Editorial Review of
Georges California Modern Restaurant
For over 20 years, George's at the Cove was a staple in the La Jolla dining scene. In 2006 however, restaurant owner, George Hauer, announced that the business would close for renovation to make the atmosphere and menu more modern. In early 2008, George's California Modern Restaurant rose from the gutted out hall that was once “at the cove.” While the chef remains the same, the menu has never been better, offering innovative new selections, celebrating fresh local ingredients and worldwide taste sensations, including such visionary delights as a black olive-cured tuna sashimi.
The inside of the restaurant has been redone from the floor up and the new interior is sleek and understated, allowing the spirit of the delightful cuisine to shine. One element the old restaurant did leave behind is the excellent ocean view and the panoramic windows to take it all in.
