Initially, the buzz around the Gaslamp Strip Club centered on the name. Before the restaurant opened, a billboard was posted off the 163 freeway, asking "What's your beef with a Gaslamp Strip Club?"
The concept isn't exactly cutting-edge - "grill your own" restaurants have sprung up around the country in recent years. But besides attracting a loyal clientele, the Gaslamp Strip Club has even generated national attention - the white truffle macaroni and cheese is Rachael Ray approved. Fortunately, the restaurant's classy Fifth Avenue facade speaks for itself. Floor-to-ceiling windows, open French doors, and a large grill near the entrance reveal an upscale and lively restaurant. Sensuous velvet, sexy leather, and semi-nude drawings play to the restaurant's provocative yet whimsical theme.
This place was a dissapointment. If I wanted to cook my own steak I would have stayed home and paid half as much money. For somewhere that you cook your own food it was still pretty pricey. And if you go with more than 2 people, good luck shouting across your table because of the excessively loud music.
The Gaslamp Strip Club in downtown San Diego is a blast! Me and a group of friends went there for a late dinner before heading out downtown. It had a lively atmosphere and was perfect for good cocktails and dinner. We really felt the whole downtown vibe. There were couples there as well as groups of friends, so this place really accommodates to many. The steaks were great there, not to mention that we got to cook our own steaks on the grill! The only thing that I didn't like was that we had to wait because we forgot to make reservations. Next time we'll make sure we do!
I've been here a couple times and it took me a couple times to get it right. The first time, I ordered a thick steak while everyone else ordered ahi, which only required searing. Timing was off and I ate about 30 minutes after them and missed dinner. Got smarter the next time and ordered shiskabobs. These are the best - low maintanence and best value.
I went here with a bunch of friends last weekend not knowing what to expect but it turned out being really fun....we got to cook our own meat and the drinks were great...I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
over here you cook your own steak. so you're pretty much screwed if you mess up cause you can't send it back. fortunately, we all knew how to cook so we had some great steak that night with awesome seasonings. the family style salad is mouth-watering and comes with grill-ready garlic bread. i didn't expect much, but I had a lot of fun here.
The Gaslamp Strip Club is the perfect spot for cocktails and late dining. I like this place a lot, because it is a fun place, you have to cook your own meet. Place to go out and having fun.
At first, the thought of going out to a place to cook your own food sounded a little weird to me, and pointless, but it was actually a really good time. The food wasnt bad at all. And I couldnt help but try out that "Rachel Ray approved" Mac & Cheese and I wasn't disappointed. Now it's "Dwide Schrude approved".
If you like to barbeque and also like to go out and get a good meal, this is the place for you. The steaks are great cuts and perfectly marinated, so all you have to do is season it and throw it on the grill. Who doesn't want some fire with their dinner. For those that don't know their way around a grill, there's helpful tips everywhere, but I sure didn't need them. Varla's pin up girls are splattered all over the wall, which is a lot nicer to look at than most art at restaurants downtown. The sides are good too, try the macaroni and cheese. Plus, the girls like it because there is all kinds of nice girly drinks
Really cool place to go with friends because you get to cook your own meat....great place for cocktails and fun
