Located in the popular Otay Ranch Town Center in the San Diego suburb of Chula Vista, Frida Mexican Cuisine offers both a warm, spacious dining setting and an alluring lounge scene. The design, by San Diego-based firm Graham Dowes, is modern while retaining Mexican flourishes. Lighting fixtures resembling church votive candles cast an alluring glow over the room; the bar, a centerpiece of the area’s nightlife, is lit from below. Outside, a majestic olive tree shades the intimate patio. Like the original Frida, art works were brought directly from different parts of Mexico, from Mexico City to the small town of Tlaquepaque.
Frida serves authentic, gourmet Mexican cuisine made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Appetizers include a ceviche bar featuring Ceviche Especial, a combination of Tuna, Shrimp, and Avocado in a Housemade Chipotle Cream Sauce, as well as Carpaccio de Atún—Thinly Sliced Tuna in a Special Sauce, with Avocado, Onions, Cilantro, and Green Chile. Frida also features such entrees as Pescado a la Talla—Grilled Tilapia marinated in a Three-Chile Sauce, served with Mexican Rice, Fried Plantains, and a Chayote Squash, stuffed with Cheese.
Frida Mexican Cuisine also operates locations in Beverly Hills, Brentwood, and Glendale. The first San Diego Friday is in Chula Vista.
