Editorial Review of French 101

Two accomplished chefs are the brains behind chic and eclectic brassiere French 101.  The new shop on Prospect Street in La Jolla, French 101 is dedicated to serving high quality and delicious food while decreasing their impact on the environment.  Offering a breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night menu, most will agree that their best offerings are fresh-made pastries and coffee.  While prices on a pastry are slightly high (around $5 each), patrons never feel cheated as the treats and atmosphere are well worth the price tag.

Terrible place, terrible service, don't go there

This place is terrible. The waiter/waitress kept lying when they bring you item you order. The first time I went there, I ordered a chocolate cake made with ganache and they brought me another one. I told them it was the wrong one and the waitress told me I was wrong. I had to go to the counter where all the cake were exposed to show her that she brought me the wrong item. I try again a breakfast this morning and I ask for an orange juice. When the orange juice was brought to the table I asked the waiter if it was a fresh squeezed orange juice and he said YES. When I tried it I realized it was a Tropicana or something like this but definitively not a fresh home made orange juice. I asked again the waitress again that confirm it was made fresh and the juice was drained to remove the pulp. They really think that one can not make the difference between a real orange juice and Tropicana!!! I had asked to see the manager to report this, as I think this is not the way to treat customers. Also at 11am on Sunday, there was no more chocolate croissant!!! Frankly, I am really sad to advise people not going in this Bistrot.

Added 10/28/09 Poor Customer Service-Terrible Cakes

Me and my wife love French bakery, especially the deserts. We try every French bakery we come across. After seeing this new bakery in La Jolla, we decided to give it a try. We ordered a black forest cake and when we tasted it we were shocked. The cake was old, at least one week; one of the worst cakes I have ever had in my entire life. We went to the register and complained about the cake. They claimed the cake was produced that morning. (2 hours ago) We kindly told them that we had not believed that story and asked for a refund. The person on the register called the owner to approve the refund. The guy came and very rudely returned our money without even apologizing for that terrible cake…
