Fred's Mexican Cafe in Old Town
Fred’s Mexican Café is the Joe’s Crab Shack of Mexican food, celebrating good food, good fun, and tacky interior design. The food is first-rate Americanized south-of-the border fare: fajitas, enchiladas, that sort of thing. "Kiss My Taco" Tuesdays are the most popular days of the week, with rock-bottom prices and boisterous crowds. Chicken, carnitas, calamari and mahi tacos go for only two dollars, and diners can upgrade to sirloin steak and Cajun shrimp tacos for just a dollar more. For those prices, you can try one (or two) of each. In addition, on the fifth of every month the restaurant celebrates Cinco de Fred, featuring drink specials, first-class mariachi, and prime people-watching.
