Within Mission Bay's The Dana Hotel, Firefly is an upscale eatery for food enthusiasts. Self-proclaimed as a combination of California and Mediterranean cuisine, the menu mixes exotic fruits, avocados, seafood and traditional European dishes in a way that seems effortless. Executive Chef Jerry Sorenson has created local favorites like mango coconut pancakes and a Caprese panini on rosemary bread with spinach basil pesto. Sorenson even improves upon the Spanish staple, paella, by adding shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels, clams, chicken and chorizo.
Despite its Mediterranean inspired menu, the décor makes no attempt to resemble a quaint Italian café or a charming French bistro. Instead, the large blocky wooden furniture creates a modern feel, featuring a dim glow around the bar, much like a firefly. The Firefly also allows for outdoor dining, allowing guests to make the most of the beautiful ocean side view.
