Mexican, Native American and Asian essences are fused with Southwestern style at Epazote, one of Del Mar’s trendiest restaurants. In this case, trendy does not mean tasteless. Epazote offers scores of selections, manufactured to make your tummy rumble. The corn-floured calamari, served with orange-cilantro chile sauce and chipotle aoli, is a good place to start, and the roasted poblano chile relleno, stuffed with crab and shrimp and served with sweet corn puree, is large enough to eat as an entrée. The chile-seared ahi with roasted pepper risotto, is a spicy, creamy treat.
Private parties of up to 100 will relish the four-course meal made of mesmerizing options: House or avocado Caesar salads. Smoked chicken, top sirloin or teriyaki salmon. Flan, crème brulee or sorbet. Luckily, there’s no way to lose at Epazote, especially if you order one of the bar’s immense margarita. Or two, if you can handle it.
