El Zarape is a true neighborhood taco shop located on the last block of Park Blvd. in hip University Heights. The menu goes far beyond the typical burrito and is a must for vegetarians and vegans craving good Mexican in a friendly, relaxed neighborhood atmosphere. While the house burrito (chicken mole, beans, rice) has and will remain the spotlight burrito of this cozy joint, it’s the seafood that packs people in. Scallops, lobster, crab, fish, and shrimp are all excellent choices featured in a number of signature dishes scrawled across the huge chalkboard on the wall.

Nothing. Not worth a dime!
Cons
Food was disgusting. You can get better nachos at a carnival.

So, my boyfriend and I decided to check this place out last night. Very cramped lil shop. I'm all for cozy, but this was BAD. The semi-exposed small kitchen housed 4-5 sad lookin cooks, who in turn served some sad looking/tasting food. We ordered Fish tacos....which tasted like last months tilapia, and smelled even worse, Nachos Supreme...which consisted of nacho cheese from the can, and thigh pieces that, I swear, had been sitting under a heat lamp for several hours (apparently its possible to get dry thigh pieces..), and lastly the infamous house burrito..all I can say for that is DON'T DO IT. We waited about 20 minutes for our food. The food was served at room temperature...Room temperature nacho cheese from a can not so delicious...room temp fish tacos...not so delicious... Everything was disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this to my enemies, because less than an 30 min after we left I had the WORST stomach cramps, and spent the night over the toilet. It was the worst $25 we ever spent. I'm not one to nag. I'm a cook myself a a restaurant in Huntington Beach. But holy guacamole....I still feel sick this morning, and felt it my place to warn you all. Rotten Food.
Conclusion

Don't do it. Its legitimately bad food. They serve large portions of food that has gone bad. I haven't been this disappointed/legimately SICK in a long time.

One of the best!!!

I don't what this chick's problem is. El Zarape is awesome. Try the scallop or lobster tacos, superb. Actually that's all I've ever tried here, because they are so great. Great food, great value. You won't be disappointed (as long as you go with scallop or lobster tacos.

Can I just say how much I love El Zarape? From the house burrito with mole sauce to the veggie supreme burrito, and all fish tacos in between, if you're looking for an authentic, yummy, delightful place for awesome Mexican fare, look no further than El Zarape.
Conclusion

Go there and love it!
