Editorial Review: (View User Reviews)

"Fandangos" were traditional parties thrown by California’s Mexican inhabitants, Old Town’s original residents. While fandangos often lasted as long as a month, El Fandango Restaurant is a wonderful place to experience similar time-honored festivities for an evening. The adobe interior is a lovely setting for pleasant dining on dishes like red snapper in Veracruz sauce, carne asada with shrimp and mushrooms, and chimichangas, which are deep-fried burritos in sauce. The more courageous may partake in some menudo, a breakfast soup with tripe and hominy. When the weather permits, dining in the heated patio is a pleasurable experience. For a festival and traditional Mexican dining experience in Old Town San Diego, visit El Fandango Restaurant.

About San Diego El Fandango Restaurant

The structure and decoration of El Fandango reflects the building style of the Mexican period: a patio with armadas for shade and the outdoor style of living, the exterior: an adobe plastered style of construction.

I celebrated a good friend’s birthday at Fandango last night and had such a fun time. Although we stuffed ourselves on “super nachos” and margaritas before our meals even came, it didn’t stop us from tasting all the amazing flavors and staying all night. It’s a great setting for small group parties. Cool traditional building with really great food and some awesome drinks. We didn’t make it in time for happy hour but we saw that they have super cool specials like enchilada and margarita combos during happy hour. Def. have to come back to try that out!
