It's no wonder El Bizcocho at Rancho Bernardo Inn was recently named the Critic's Choice for "Best of the Best," by San Diego Magazine when the Chef de Cuisine is none other than Iron Chef Gavin Kaysen, one of the nation's top chefs who represented the United States at the Bocuse d'Or competition in France.
Kaysen, who has a penchant for adventure, runs a quirky albeit elegant menu. Dinner is series of multiple courses, beginning with appetizers such as Lobster "Not so Bisque" Consomme, with additives of Maui onion flan and lime zest in addition to the lobster. The chef plate, a sampler course, that runs eight to ten courses, allows you to "put yourself in the hands of the chef, and let the chef and his team create a spontaneous menu that will awaken your taste buds." Furthermore, a 1,600 label wine list is available to be paired with each course.
While Kaysen and El Bizcocho are sure to make dinner at Rancho Bernardo Inn an unforgettable experience, please beware the strictly enforced dress code: dress shoes and shirts are required, and denim is forbidden.
