Currant, the featured restaurant found at the newly renovated Sophia Hotel, is an up and coming craze in the land of boutique hotel dining.

The restaurant features dramatic 17-foot ceilings and can hold up to 85 guests indoors as well as 30 outside. Currant is the perfect appetizer for this lovely Gaslamp hotel.

Defined as an irresistible American style brasserie, the menu features a variety of Lady Liberty's favorite meals.

Best recognized for his accomplishments at Anthony's Star of the Sea, Executive Chef, Jonathan Pflueger, has taken his role at The Sofia to a new level.  Returning to his hometown after working in New York's Russian Tea Room, Pflueger brings his innovative and renowned talents back to San Diego.

My boyfriend and I went into Currant this last Monday in downtown and it was so cool! As soon as we walked in we got a fresh feeling, like we were in a modern version of a elegant restaurant out of Europe or Greece. The checkered tile floors and antique style sofas were my favorite. Currant offered a good wine happy hour that night (good for us, we love our wine!). My boyfriend is in the restaurant industry which was good for us because they have another happy hour for anyone in the industry after 9 p.m. The employees were very attentive and engaging too. The one thing was that it is located in the Sofia Hotel, which is a bit away from the heart of downtown so bars were a bit far to go afterward. I guess that can be good or bad.
Conclusion

It was a great experience with good happy hour and great service and great set-up.

Currant offers life changing food in San Diego

The jumbo sea scallops on a bed of risotto were exactly what I needed to change a dreary week. The pumpkin martini was mind boggling. They infused vodka with pumpkin, added frangelico, and godiva liqour for the ultimate rich and sweet drink. The beet salad is all the rage downtown right now, for good reason, it is light and rich all at once. Top it off with the Grand Marnier souffle and your mouth will beg you to never leave this spot. This glorious wonderful restaurant will seem to save your marriage, get you a job you love and more just by the fantasies created with the food.
Conclusion

If you can only eat one place for the rest of your life, make it Currant!
