Editorial Review of Broken Yolk Cafe Downtown

A local favorite since 1979, Broken Yolk has found a new home in downtown San Diego. Still doing business at its other locations, the new Broken Yolk provides its customers with longer weekend hours while maintaining its standard of excellent food. Broken Yolk is best known for its tantalizing and creative omelette selection and with over twenty different styles of omelettes to choose from, it caters to the tastes of a great range of people. The selection includes: The Rancher (Bacon, home fried potatoes, bell peppers, tomato, green onion topped with real sour cream), The Border Check (Beef chorizo, jalepeno, Jack cheese topped with guacamole and salsa),  and The Mom (A vegetarian choice with avocado, mushrooms, bell peppers, onion, alfalfa sprouts topped with real sour cream and salsa). Broken Yolk offers a variety of other options as well. For those with a sweet tooth, Broken Yolk has delicious sweet French toast that is topped with strawberries and powdered sugar and other delectable sweet treats. Broken Yolk offers not only breakfast, but lunch as well. If you are visiting for lunch, the ½ pound Patty Melt Down (a cheeseburger on rye) or the lightVeggie Garden salad would be a great place to start while looking at the menu. If you are planning a party, The Broken Yolk Café has a spacious private room that seats up to 85 people and is great for parties and banquets. For early morning eats, weekend brunch dates and more, you can rely on Broken Yolk.

Added 04/20/11 Always a Good Choice

I first heard the Broken Yolk from my sister, who raves about their breakfast and mimosas. She definitely knew what she was talking about. Broken Yolk is always super satisfying (and you don't have to be hung over to enjoy it!) They also serve lunch, which is a plus. Just make sure to get there before they close at three pm!

Added 09/27/10 BEST HANGOVER CURE EVER

So after a rather long night of debauchery, I woke up parched and hungry. Being in the downtown area, I managed to stagger my way over the the Broken Yolk Cafe. I was in what I would like to call one of my moods, it seems the combination of hangovers and early hours of the day are the culprit. I entered the restaurant annoyed, grumpy and in need of some serious detox. Once I inhaled the delicious scent of breakfast and coffee I immediately began to feel better. Not only was I seated right away, I was given the best service. Obviously I was guzzling down water like I had been exploring the Sahara all night and my waitress was kind enough to keep my water cup topped off at all times. My food arrived in no time at all looking and smelling better than I had expected. I ordered the waffles with strawberries and whipped cream and they were to die for. It gave me the energy I needed to combat my hangover and get through my day. Thanks Broken Yolk!!!

this place is my favorite spot for breakfast in san diego :) the staff are friendly and get your food out in great time, and the food is quality! i love the breakfast burrito and the john wayne omelette with chili...yes please! oh and if you are trying to make history, i recommend you try the iron man challenge! it's a beast of all beasts of omelette's. if you win you get a free shirt, you get a photo posted up in the restaurant, and the meal is free! i recommend this place to anybody in need of a tasty and affordable breakfast, or lunch for that matter.

Added 06/29/10 Best breakfast spot downtown!

This place is really tasty! We we're just walking around downtown looking for some breakfast or lunch and this had everything we could ever need for either of those meals. We had the California Breakfast Burrito and endless coffee. Yum Yum Yum for a great deal! I would highly recommend this place to anybody with taste buds still left on their tongue. The waitress was really friendly, and even though this place was completely packed, they did a great job getting our order and our food out pretty quickly! The manager also came up and sat with us, he was really funny. Oh and the bus boy was really cute :) Don't miss out!

Added 05/03/10 Great Lunch Specials

I never knew about the great lunch specials Broken Yolk had until I went in on my lunch break the other the day. I got a huge Turkey Wrap with a side salad and french fries for under $8. The food was great and was ready quickly.
