Looking for a fantastic meal included with a breathtaking view of downtown San Diego? Look no further because Bertrand at Mister A’s has it all. Equipped with an outdoor balcony wrapping around the top floor of the downtown skyscraper, the beautiful skyline is right in front of you for your viewing pleasure. Try out their tantalizing sautéed New Zealand John Dory: roasted tomato coulis, baby fennel and cauliflower agrodolce or let your taste buds indulge in the roasted rack of spring lamb, with rosemary jus, provencale and pommes daughine. And if you usually skimp on dessert, don’t even think of trying that here. With a dessert menu including Tahitian vanilla crème brulee and chocolate banana tart, these succulent treats will leave you craving more in the weeks to come.
The Animal Protection and Rescue League asks you to boycott this restaurant to help stop animal cruelty. Mr. A's continues to serve fois gras, the liver of ducks or geese which have endured weeks of force feeding, performed by jamming large metal pipes down their throats and filling them with massive quantities of food. This is the equivalent of forcing a 150 pound human to eat 60 pounds of food per day. The livers of these poor birds swell up to ten times their normal size, inducing a disease called "hepatic lipidosis". These fattened, diseased livers are served as foie gras. Please call Mr. A's and inquire if they are still serving fois gras. If so, then please let them know that you choose not to patronize restaurants which engage in this horrific cruelty.
Although a little cliche in its reputation, Mister A's has lovely Old World feeling that is really rare in San Diego. In the land of ownership turnovers and reinvention, this spot always seems to stay the same. A little out-dated but there is an essence of comfort when you walk in. Also- it is a really popular place where people "pop the question", almost too popular!
