Restaurant Details: Benihana is San Diego’s favorite traditional Japanese steakhouse. Every night is a celebration, sizzling with music, laughter, and thunderous applause. A unique experience, where food is "not only cooked, it’s choreographed", Benihana features extraordinarily talented chefs who slice and cook your meal’s ingredients at a hibachi table right in front of you. Awe-inspiring knife shows and stand-up comedy are characteristic, and eating out has never been more entertaining. Besides typical teppanyaki selections such as chicken breast, shrimp, steak, calamari, scallops, salmon and vegetables, Benihana also offers delicious sushi rolls, and tasty desserts—try the banana tempura with strawberry ice cream. The bar’s enticing cocktails will only make you clap louder.

Editorial Review of Benihana of Tokyo

Although Benihana has become an international brand, they celebrate their Japanese heritage as the most important part of “experiencing” the Benihana by honoring one of the oldest cultures on earth in the way they display themselves and serve their guests. At the core of the Benihana experience is the teppanyaki table, where guests are able to gather and enjoy a meal skillfully prepared and cooked to excellence on a steel grill, right in front of their eyes — by a chef who more than just a culinary master, but an entertainer. The meal begins with a fine Japanese onion soup, which is followed by a salad with the well known ginger dressing. The chef then uses the sizzling grill surface to prepare your chicken, beef or seafood, along with vegetables, hibachi-style. It’s a show you’ll sure enjoy because Benihana chefs literally play with your food as they cook it. Your entrée will be served with family dipping sauces and steamed rice. If you rather, there’s also the option of Benihana's mouthwatering Hibachi chicken rice. There is also the option of ordering tempura, sushi and specialty rolls. Bring a friend, a date, your children, your whole family or your office gang — anyone who enjoys a scrumptious, freshly cooked meal alongside all the fun thrown in. Benihana can seat groups of all sizes, and of course, the more the merrier at the teppanyaki tables. Or come on your own and join others at the table for a fresh cooked meal and a show. Here you’ll be sure to find a unique and exceptional experience that's new and fresh every time you visit.

Added 05/08/11 Makes dinner fun

Benihana is one of my all time favorite restaurants. It is amazing for birthday parties (sign up with their club and you get your birthday dinner free) or just groups in general. You get a full dining experience with the chefs creatively forming your meal right in front of you, my favorite is the chicken hibachi and their shrimp is to die for.

This place is really fun because the chef cooks your food right in front of you. The food is very good. Perfect place for groups because each table has 8 seats that are situated around the chef. Highly recommend it!
