Editorial Review of Ajiya Sushi Bar and Asian Bistro

Ajiya Sushi Bar and Asian Bistro, the latest addition to Del Mar's host of sushi restaurants, has proven to be a wildly popular newcomer. The sushi bar offers conventional specialty rolls such as the Rainbow Roll, but also features unique sushi combinations involving, of all things, fruit. Bizarre as it may seem, Ajiya's fruit and fish pairing has unsuspectingly become a local favorite. Visit the newest sushi bar in the neighborhood and prepare to discover the titillating flavor of innovation.

Added 05/17/09 The worst sushi place ever

This is the worst sushi place ever!! For one, the staff try to fool you with using Japanese words, such as "Arigato" , however when you get to know them, they are Korean. I'm not dissing on Koreans, however the overall theme with these guys that I want to emphasize is deception. They have an "all you can eat" sushi special that is devised to basically deceive you and maximize the amount of money they steal from you! Beware!! these guys are martial artists, trained in the art of screwing you over. I'll only say that the food is highly sub-par, and the chef apparently has a method developed to create 90% of his dishes to taste so bad you have to either send the dish back, or move on to the next horror movie of a sadistic creation. The concept is death by exhaustion, you basically give up after trying most of the "all you can eat" menu completely dissatisfied, praying not to get a Hepatitis infection and that a local pharmacy is close by. Look, I am serious, If I were you in that lovely mall, walk right by Ajiya and spare the pain and suffering to you and loved ones you are with

Added 01/10/08 Lousy.

Lousy service - we had to wait forever to be seated (even though the place was empty) and for every other interaction with the waitress. The miso soup was like seawater. The tempura was greasy and tasteless, and the seafood yakisoba had all of three pieces of seafood in it (all squid), overcooked vegetables, and was bland. The onion rings were also greasy and unpalatable. On the whole, a terrible dining experience. We won't be back.

great repeat experiences

Ajiya is a great addition to the North County sushi community. We have been there many times with a consistently good experience, both for food and service. Early on, they did have a few challenges on busy Friday nights working out the kinks, but they have done extremely well since then. We go weekly, and particularly enjoy the Protein Roll. Sit at the sushi bar and enjoy!

Added 11/14/07 Terrible terrible terrible

My family and I went to Ajiya for dinner the other night. The host was pleasant but it was all down hill from there. The service was horrible. We would ask for things (extra chopsticks, regular soy sauce, drink refills) and we did not get any of it. The servers seemed very unorganized and quite frankly, lost. I ordered the Jidori Chicken. That was not bad. We also shared several sushi rolls. Somehow, they did not seem even close to the descriptions on the menu. Our server had no knowledge of the menu and was obviously only interested in taking as many tables as she could to make tips.

servers

for servers to have knowledge of the food, they have to have actually bought it and tasted it -_-
