Editorial Review of 333 Pacific

333 Pacific is located appropriately enough at 333 North Pacific Street in Oceanside - literally a stone's throw from the world famous pier. Owned by the Cohn group, who produces some of the most popular and exquisite dining options in San Diego, 333 Pacific surely not one to miss. The Cohn's newest addition not only serves up innovative cuisine, but also a landscape ocean view that is second to none. Executive ChefRandy Miller infuses the menu of 333 Pacific with a style and flare uniquely California, yet worldly enough to appeal to even the most discriminating palettes. Group seating can be arranged and online reservations are also available, eliminating the usual hassle of finding a seat for fine dining. Indulge in seafood specialties such as grilled swordfish with potato croquettes, Mediterranean relish and mussel saffron emulsion, or Chef Miller's Tuna Poke Tacos with fresh avocado salsa, macadamias and thinly sliced cucumber.

Patrons can also feast upon additional signature dishes, the likes of which they have likely never experienced before in San Diego. Oven roasted rack of lamb with herb mustard crust, sweet potato grain, sautéed asparagus and natural au jus represents merely a singular entrée amidst an array of steak, shop and seafood combinations all prepared with Chef Miller's bold and inspiring contemporary flavors. For all its culinary grandeur, however, all of 333 Pacific's exquisite dishes are reasonably priced; an impressive feat considering the picturesque scenery alone is worth more than the price of admission.

Added 01/08/12 What's the bUZZ on 333?

333 offers the same, dynamic experience that will captivate you just like you had driven the 36.5 miles to get to the closest Cohn restaurant. When you enter 333, you are welcomed by 2 high top bar tables that are lit with a blue light. It's a perfect spot to meet the girls for drinks! There is a big screen TV that hangs over the bar that continuously shows ocean scenes. Or if you wanted to see the real thing, just sit on the patio and gaze out onto the great Pacific Ocean and the Oceanside Pier. It's a beautiful spot that they have snagged. Everything about this restaurant reminds me of Downtown San Diego. From the hostess standing by the desk at the front door, the meticulous details that went into choosing plates, silverware, and glasses, down to the first class service that is demanded by each and every Cohn restaurant. Every restaurant, clothing retailer, salesmen, car dealer, etc should take a lesson from them. I strongly believe that if we all adapted the philosophy that customers need to be treated with care, compassion, and good service the world would be a better place. The perfection is shown in the food as well. I had pre-ordered the sweet chili calamari, crab, shrimp & lobster cake, Kobe beef pot stickers, wild mushroom risotto, Gouda mac & cheese, and 3 sushi rolls for the group. It turned out to be a great mix of dishes and gave us all a little taste of what this restaurant is capable of. I was delighted by the Crab, Shrimp & Lobster Cake and the Calamari. Executive Chef Randy Miller has put a little spin on the staple Calamari by dishing it out already covered in a spicy chili sauce. I was quite surprised with the seafood cake because I could tasted the shrimp and I could taste the lobster and I could tasted the crab. Delicious! Just don't eat 3. That was a little too much. I'm not a fan of the Kobe Beef Potstickers. I had tried them once before and I chose to pass on them at the bUZZ night. Please make a comment about you

On our last evening in CA, we selected "333 Pacific" for our last family supper. The atmosphere, service, food; plus menu knowledge and wine suggestions were superb. Next CA visit will definitely include a return to "333 Pacific" Thank You, Tom & Marvel

No Service--No Service--No Service! My mom got nauseated when we first sat down, and it took 30 seconds for someone to pay attention to us, even though I shouted at 2 servers! The food that was served really did not match the menu. There was no tarragon in the bearnaise sauce on the salmon, the house salad was a collection of frisee and vineger, with one pecan and one parmesan cheese chip. The "chocolate torte with chantilly cream and berries" was a 1 1/2" square of chocolate cat with no chantilly cream and no berries. The service was the cap--absolutely terrible.

Added 09/05/09 Hostess

333 had everything going for it,great recommendations concerning the food, great vodka bar with yummy Martinis etc. On top of which i have been waiting for such a place for over 15 years! However when it came to the service, "the face" of the restaurant, maybe management needs to re-think who they are hiring to represent 333 Pacific. After working in a restaurant myself for over 7 years i'm the first one to forgive little mistakes even BIG mistakes when it comes to the service...the problem i have is when you haven't even begun to experience the food service and the hostess greets you with a sour look! HELLO i know its not the most sought after position in the restaurant industry but the hostess is one of the most crucial ingredients when setting the tone for the night. With that said The hostess, was anything but pleasant, and right away she left abad taste in my mouth. The rest of the lunch service was completely void because of the inappropriate behavior from the hostess.

Added 05/26/09 We want free desert!

Although the food and scenery would want to make me come back for more, I would now have to reconsider. Our experience at the restaurant was less than enjoyable, we felt very uncomfortable almost like criminals. The night started our pleasant; we were sat near a window to see the nice beach view. We started having a good view and enjoying the environment. The restaurant was very elegant and stylish. We ordered appetizers and water and were having a good time. We got a refill of water and that is when the problems started. After the refill we noticed that there was a cigarette bud in the water. So we called the waitress and told her the situation. She started with a sarcastic tone, How did that happen? We do not allow smoking in here. We felt as if she was blaming us. As if we were trying to get something for free. We told her we wanted to speak to the manager, which she said not a problem. The manger did not arrive until we were ready to pay the bill and after we had to remind the waitress that he has not talked to us yet. When he did arrive, he sounded sarcastic when apologizing to us, again he might have thought, since the waitress talked to him first, that we were trying to get something free. When he was finished apologizing he stood there for a while quite looking at us. Since he did not say anything, one of our friends asked him “what about a free desert” He quickly snapped at him” You have to wait for the manager to offer it to you” He did offer it but after a brief argument with our friend. When the waitress came we declined the offer for free desert and did not tip her. One of our friends did end up telling the waitress that she was unprofessional in accusing us of planting the cigarette in the water, which the waitress just kept quite. Well we will never return there again. What ever happened to the customer is always right, I guess this time we were wrong for not accepting their mistake.

Added 02/02/09 Great new restaurant!

This is the perfect place to take someone you love for a romantic dinner and walk on the pier! The food is amazing and the service is awesome! The only thing that I would advise to watch out for is the prices of wines can be expensive if you don't ask. We were suprised by our bill at the end of the meal. It was twice as much because we didn't ask how much, but if money is no object then just take the suggestion from the server of a good wine. Other then that I must say that the food is of the highest quality and the attmosphere is top notch.

Added 01/18/09 Finally in Oceanside

We had an opportunity to try 333 Pacific with a business colleague from the UK tonight. He was already won over by the beauty of San Diego County, and the meal topped a "lovely" afternoon touring from Escondido, Del Dios Hwy to Mission Bay, Mt. Soledad and a drive up the 101 to Oceanside. Being Oceanside residents, we enjoyed a magnificent sunset from our deck before heading to 333 Pacific. On arriving I was a bit concerned at the lively and somewhat loud lounge at the entrance. However we were led to a very elegant and quiet booth for a very nice meal. Our guest praised the perfectly prepared sirloin. We all enjoyed the Ahi Poke Taco starters--very California. The house salad came with the perfect amount of dressing. The filet, mashed potatoes and lobster salad were enjoyed as well. We were too full to try dessert. Very good. After living 5 years in Oceanside, it is wonderful to finally have such a high quality restaurant that is worthy of impressing out of town guests. 333 Pacific also has two private dinning rooms. I am sure to have future business gatherings at this great location.

Added 01/18/09 Oceanfront View at a new Oceanside Restaurant

333 Pacific is a great place to stop by if you’re in the Oceanside area. My boyfriend and I decided to check it out after hearing that it had just opened, and were amazed by the beautiful oceanfront view that we had during our dining experience. Being a seafood lover, this restaurant had a wonderful selection—sushi, shrimp and all sorts of shellfish from the raw bar, as well as crap & lobster/seafood specialties. I ordered the “miso seared sashimi grande ahi tuna” which practically melted in my mouth! My boyfriend, who isn’t much of a seafood person, also got his share from 333 Pacific by ordering the filet mignon—which also had melted in his mouth from the delicious tenderness. For a great view and wonderful menu, we would definitely stop by 333 Pacific again!
