Pacific Beach’s Tavern at the Beach teasingly calls itself "a sunny place for shady people". Luckily, only the first half is true. The crowd cramming into the popular bar each night is better than the average beach going swarms, likely because the Tavern is a better-than-average bar. Where else offers a seven-hour happy hour?
Service souls adore the food and beverage industry specials on Tuesday nights, with calls ringing in at a rock-bottom $3. Weekends yoke exceptional DJs for loud and lively dance parties. The club itself is decked in warmly shaded wood, making for a causal atmosphere where you need not overdress, unless you’re looking to be seen.
I have been to taverns twice and both times i had to wait in line for an hour and a half. The security over use their authority and are very rude. The only good part to this bar is the inexpensive drinks but I would not recommend this club to anyone unless u are extremely bored on tuesday and thursday and dont mind security hasseling you for no reason. The dress code is casual, yet, they wont let u in if your pants are too baggy. which I can understand but there are no specification on what baggy is to the bar. It really just depends on whether or not the guys at the door want to let you in or be an ass. I witnessed racial profiling and the worst part about it is that most of the security are african american. But if your black its even harder to get in. I wouldnt go back and waste my money or time to be humiliated by security. Go somewhere other than the tavern.
We had no problems getting in and everyone was really nice. By far the coolest and quickest barstaff I've ever seen. Music was great.
My name is Mikey Beats and I am a native San Diegan and a PB local. I am a local DJ and have played everywhere and shared smiles with everyone. I never expect free hand outs. I tip EXTREMELY well. I know how PB works. With out a doubt in my mind, Tavern has the worst door staff in PB. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly and with such disrespect. There is no ego coming from me. Just do your job and let me in. Word of advice for the owners, the good time starts at the door. If your door staff puts a bad taste in the mouth of your customers, I doubt your drink specials are gonna wash that out. If you are new to PB, go ahead and skip this spot.
It is so hard to get a drink at the Tavern. There were way too many people overcrowding the dance floor. I couldn't even get to the other side of the bar with out being pushed and bumped into.
