If you’ve got a singer’s heart, there are many places to choose from for liberating your vocal cords. But why settle when you can holler with the best of the best? The Lamplighter, located off Washington n Mission Hills, is top-ranked each year as best karaoke bar in San Diego, with good reason. Every night, the microphones magnetize singers of every persuasion: the good, the bad, and the eardrum-shatteringly ugly. Waiting his or her turn, of course, is the karaoke-lover’s lot. Happily, The Lamplighter is a great place to mingle with unpretentious locals, and slurp down drinks at blissful prices, as long as you can stand the worst of the screechers. Absolutely no booing allowed.

Added 06/28/09 Sat night KJ rocks the house!!!!

I like to go to The Lamplighter whenever I get the opportunity. My boyfriend and some friends of ours usually like to go on a Friday or Saturday night. Granted, it is supremely packed in there with lots of karaoke singers, but the KJ Eric who works there those nights, is very nice and runs the show smoothly. Which is why I will continue to make this my number 1 karaoke spot. ~Meanie

Added 05/20/08 Extremely Rude

The DJ / Karoke Grand Master is extremely rude and partially racist. If it's busy, don't expect to have your song played unless you tip him well. I'm not talking a few singles I'm talking a five and change. And even then you might hear your song in withing the next two hours.
