Editorial Review: (View User Reviews)

Stingaree, the Gaslamp Quarter’s largest and most glamorous nightclub, is quite literally hot enough to sting. This superclub is the most prominent indication that San Diego’s downtown is joining the ranks of such outstanding nightlife destinations as Los Angeles, New York and Las Vegas. Named after the city’s turn-of-the-century red light district, the club spans three levels. The street-level space is always crammed with clubbers, and floating staircases lead to the VIP mezzanine. The rooftop bar, sizzling with fire pits and beautiful people, is an open-air celebration. Don’t expect to leave without spending a pretty penny; nightlife this dazzling calls for resilient bankbooks.

Get Stung a little earlier with Happy Hour, featuring a half-priced lounge menu, half-priced signature cocktails, half-priced wine by the glass, and $5 wells, $3 bottles and drafts: Tuesday - Friday 5-8pm, Thursday extended 5-10pm.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this club. There are tons of beautiful people that come here. But most of the girls are unapproachable, because there waiting for Shawne Merriman to show up or some other high roller.I really don't think they have a dance floor and I guess its more of a lounge, then a club.I love the patio area up stairs.I think the price is high, considering they have been open for some time now.The price of drinks is outrageous to me.But if your looking to hang out with some beautiful people, then this is the place to be
Conclusion

Its a cool place to be if you want to be seen around beautiful people. But its not the first place that comes to mind, when I get ready for the weekend. But I always enjoy going and have not had a bad experience yet.

Pros
crowd, vibe, quick bartenders
Cons
waiting in line, crowded dance floor

Two weeks ago I went down to Sting on both Friday and Saturday - was on the guest list both nights, but still had to wait in line. Despite being on the list and arriving at 9:30, I was still in line for at least 30 minutes. The line just kept getting worse once we got in. The club was packed but still inviting, it was a good crowd, bartenders were speedy - very attentive.
Conclusion

It's pretty lame when you still have to wait in line for 30 minutes even when you get there at 9:30.... common now.

No matter where else I go party (Ivy, Belo, On Broadway…) I ALWAYS have the most fun at Sting. The rooftop is cool (especially the little raised lounges by the bar), sometimes they even have fashion shows up there, but the mezzanine level is the most fun for me. If you’re friends have a table (or if you’re a cute girl you can charm your way in…) you can go to the VIP mezzanine area where there’s fun dancing, short bar lines and a super hot crowd. The other places are cool, but nothing’s more fun than Stingaree.
Conclusion

No matter what else I try, Sting is always the most fun for me and my friends.

Nice roof loung area, Pretty people, fun atmosphere
Cons
Dance floor gets crowded...very crowded, small meal portions

Overall Rating:
Stingaree appears to be a hip place to be. I was invited here to attend a bday celebration. We were all treated like kings and queens in a VIP dining area. The portions were tiny, but the presentation and service was top-notch. The music that plays throughout is pretty good, but the bouncers on the first floor will give you a hard time if you try to make it to the restroom by cutting throught the dining area.
Conclusion

Fine food...Fine people...It was a fine time. I didn't show up here for the singles scene, so if that's what you're after, you might have a different experience. But like I said, if you are here for plain drinking and dancing, it's a good choice. Just beware that tiny dance area on the first floor.

Horrible experience, because the bartender was so rude...What kind of bartender say "I don't care" to customer. If you want to have good time don't go here...go to On Broadway or Eden's rooftop instead.
Conclusion

Cons
You better be ready to bring out the cash.

Stingaree in Downtown was really cool. There are three floors all that are crowded with people dancing. It def. was expensive for drinks. There was kind of an older crowd, well older men crowd with younger ladies. Fun music, very upbeat and fancy.
Conclusion

Stingaree is the place you would want to have a birthday and make all your friends pay. Dressy, chic and expensive but loads of fun.

Overy hyped

This place is architectually large BUT the layout of the interior is tight and claustrophobic. There is a lot of pushing and shoving to get anywhere. There is a small dancefloor on the bottom level but not much room to dance. The middle floor is a waste of space. The rooftop is nice though but that's probably because you can feel the air on your face as you squeeze yourself through the crowd. There is a ratio of 1 bouncer for every 10 people. It seems as if there are bouncers everywhere you look. Not sure if that is really necessary for a club that touts itself as on of the classier nightclubs downtown. Don't think that you should feel safe because there are so many bouncers. There is one in particular that has a screw loose and the others will back up their own. All in all, this is a over hyped, mediocre nightclub. Rumor has it that it will be shutting down soon.
