When you’re eighteen and you’ve had enough of hookah bars and frat parties, it’s nearly impossible to find an exciting place to spend your evening. Fortunately, there’s SOMA in Point Loma, a massive music club which hosts top-blowing events that even lasso the over-21 set.

Soma’s concerts are the stuff of legends. Acts showcased range from middling names to gifted local groups, and as a result the venue is celebrated for providing a launch pad to catapult newcomers into the industry. The main space holds multitudes of music-lovers, so ecstatic and energized it’s remarkable to think they’re all sober. The club values its strict no-alcohol policy, so even if you’re twenty-five, don’t try to smuggle any in.

Added 12/18/07 SOMA is THE venue for local music in San Diego

Whether to get exposure to some great local bands in San Diego or a chance to check out some of the more popular ones, The SOMA is the place for a great musical experience. This is a standing room only venue which makes for a more intimate environment. Soma actually cares about the music, so every show will be worthwhile.

I love seeing shows here! This venue is one of the only ones in San Diego that lets the under 21's like me in. There are some great bands that stop by...I saw Thrice here once. The tickets aren't too expensive, either.
