An upscale dive bar in Downtown San Diego? It's real, folks. The Local is a surf-themed dive bar for those seeking a laid-back crowd in an sea of the hyper hip and trendy venues that populate the Gaslamp Quarter.

The Local is famous for their happy hour deals that run all night long. Thursdays are especially happy with the Cheap Thursday theme featuring $3 Jager shots, bottles, drafts, and wells. There's no cover; the fun starts at 4pm and doesn't stop until last call.

The bar menu is a selection of Californian favorites with cheeky names like Big Ass Nachos and the Big Wet Burrito. Obviously, the portions are huge, but luckily, the prices are not.

The Local is definitely more my style than a club or VIP lounge. It's supposedly a dive bar, but a classy dive bar? That aside, they serve really great food and any drink you can think of. Happy hour isn't stingy at all, and last the entire night. The prices for everything are great. It can get pretty packed, but that's all part of the experience!

This place is confusing at first, it has all the ambiance of a small dive bar (and the prices) but is much more sophisticated than that would imply. How? Take for instance, the delicious lobster tacos. Check it out, you will be surprised.

I had heard about it and seen the logo, but I finally went in to test it out after I bought my DiscoverSD hook-up. I went in and ordered a burger and a bbq quesedilla. It was really tasty, and it was packed! It was around noon, but it was practically full. The service was good, the lady kept filling up my coca-cola. All in all, a great experience. I've already recommended to a few people to go check it out.

The Local definitely lives up to its name. A laid-back local spot to just hang out and enjoy a few drinks and decent food. Great place to mellow out in Downtown San Diego.
