Live Wire, formerly of the beer-and-wine-only persuasion, now offers hefty cocktails at affordable prices along with its long-lauded progressive music. Although the bar no longer showcases live acts, it’s still a prime place to hear grunge rock and harsher beats missing from the city’s other night spots.

Live Wire is a place with little affectations, with no requirements expect for an appreciation for the more independent things in life. The bar’s resultant, overwhelming "indie cred" has established it as one of the city’s hippest dives for college kids and like-minded locals.

Added 05/18/07 A hip dive bar

One of my favorite bars. The drinks are quite cheap, the jukebox is pretty impressive, the bar staff is friendly, and the best part is, it’s frequented by pretty young things. Unfortunately, poseurs trying so hard to act like they’re all that also show up at the place, and they’re pretty annoying.
