La Puerta
Located on Fourth Avenue amidst the bustle of fast-paced nightclub traffic, La Puerta stands apart from the crowd with its humble size and attitude. Spanish for “The Door”, La Puerta invites guests to walk through their enormous wood and iron castle-sized entryway and make themselves at home amidst the soft lighting and comfortable booths. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this downtown watering hole is akin to the standard dive bar – locals who work and play downtown consider this Mexican-inspired lounge a first class drinking destination. A relaxed atmosphere and bubbly waitress staff are sure to help you feel right at home as you drink customized cocktails named after popular rock songs from the past. Take for instance the “Purple Haze”, which takes the signature frozen margarita and swirls it together with La Puerta’s own homemade sangria. Feeling adventurous? Why not try a “Hot For Teacher”, a spicy tequila-based concoction complete with muddled jalapeno. La Puerta also serves an array of traditional Mexican dishes combined with a San Diego style twist. The Surf n’ Turf burrito is one of their most popular entrees, wrapping steak, shrimp, jack cheese, guacamole and chipotle sour cream inside of a massive flour tortilla. Food is served seven nights a week until 1am so feel free to sober up with one of their enormous burritos before heading home.
La Puerta is also home to a legendary Happy Hour and revolving daily specials on food and drinks. From a collection of signature handcrafted cocktails and a menu of affordable, mouthwatering delights, La Puerta’s intimate interior makes the perfect stop for patrons looking for easygoing fun and ever-changing entertainment.
