Instead of offering a vast selection of microbrews, Mission Valley’s spirited Gordon Biersch Brewery concentrates on a rotating selection of four in-house beers, usually pilsner, marzen, blonde or winter bock, and hefeweizen. Because there are so few varieties, their quality is assured, and each has its own dedicated following.
As for food, Gordon Biersch boasts filling fare cooked entirely from scratch. Standouts are the crispy artichoke hearts, the shrimp and chicken potstickers, the barbecue chicken pizza, and the goat cheese ravioli. The restaurant’s garlic fries are so legendary, Petco Park concession stands serve them during ball games, and you can even purchase them in the frozen food section of select grocery stores. Naturally, they taste much better sizzling fresh in the bustling restaurant, with a pint or two to wash them down.
