Through the polished lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, guests head up the elevator to the mid-level rooftop, passing through a wide windowed hallway to the outdoor lounge. As the harbor breeze hits your skin, you awaken to greet lantern lit trees shading a grand oasis filled with fire pit VIP lounges - and that's just the beginning. Meet the new San Diego Float – the bigger and better pool bar. A wrap-around bar with ultra-modern petite stools connects the entryway to the semi-hidden bar lounge shielded by a lit overhang. Bold black and white graffiti-style street art tackles select bar walls, proposing questions of youth, love and the risks of rock ‘n roll. Lucid drapes unveil mystical glimpses into the Gaslamp cityscape through floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows. A large geometric display of pure white modern art looms beside soft wooden tables and chairs topped with subtle off-white candles. Under the San Diego sky, lucky Float guests lounge in stark black VIP booths, accented by white and zebra skin pillow plush. Guests staying at the Hard Rock Hotel are also invited to the party, with two tickets for free VIP access until 10pm. Each three-sided booth is internally connected by its own blazing fire bit, enabling upper-crust guests to remain warm while enjoying the uninhibited view of the San Diego skyline. Check back on Sundays during the summer months for their famous bikini-clad pool parties. The blend of edgy urban décor and resilient pacific ambiance makes the new Float in San Diego a decidedly Hard Rock venue.

Added 04/19/11 I got high at Float

This is the rooftop lounge located on the Hard Rock Hotel. I have been up here a few times and, unless there is an event going on, it is usually pretty empty. Most of the space is reserved for bottle service, so that is a must if you want to make a front row seat to the scenic view.
