This place is now the Ivy nightclub and I have loved all of the small improvements they have made since. Still my favorite place when I just need to let it all go and dance. Lots of hot girls make their way here every night, which keeps things interesting.
On Saturday 6/13/2009 we had VIP bottle service for about 15. I called Envy to set it up on thursday just to make sure things would go smoothly. The VIP host told me over the phone bottles start at $300 and since we had 15 people, it would be a 3 bottle minimum. The bottles did not start at $300. When we got escorted to our cabana at the top floor, we found that on the menu the minimum bottle price was $375. The vodka started with Grey Goose which was $375 and the cognac started with Courvoisier at $375 (Henessey VS was $400). The drink prices are a bit pricey also. They had a small selection of beers all for about $12 per bottle. The cocktails were about $15. When we got to the Ivy Hotel, there was a ridiculously long and crowded line of people waiting to get in. Good thing we had bottle service reservations which allowed us to get in on the side at the VIP entrance for free with no wait. We got escorted to a nice sized cabana at the top floor by the pool. Our drink server was a very sexy blonde girl. That was a plus. The top floor is more for lounging than dancing. At the top, there was a good sized, mixed crowd with plenty of sexy ladies all around. There was also some showgirls dancing on the bar which was nice. The vibe was chill and friendly. The annoying thing was we had a few strangers come and sit in our cabana to take pictures. We didn't want to make a big fuss out of it, so we let them take pictures as long as they didn't hang around. It was just annoying because it just wasn't one set of strangers. People kept coming. The nice thing though is that when we hit up the dance floor, our drink server took our bottles away so that no one would take them or drink them. She brought them back when we came back. Since we were VIP, moving around the club was pretty smooth and easy. But I could see that if you weren't VIP, you would have a hard time getting around. There are too many lines for stairs and elevators to get around the
Also note that 20% gratuity was included on the bill.
My friends got a VIP Lounge for a Bachelorette party, but as soon as we all got into the club, trouble started. We didn't have to pay, which was awesome, and we got one of the swankiest areas (The huge white leather sofa under a beautiful Chandlier next to the spiral staircase). The girl who had organized the event had ordered two bottles of Champagne, but when we got there, a very rude manager told us we needed to buy at least three bottles of alcohol at $375 +. Of course, we were all confused as to why we had already ordered the champagne and were told we were good but were now told we needed more. Both a woman and man manager were EXTREMELY rude, telling us we needed to buy more or get out. If we were booked under wrong circumstances, fine, but there is a huge difference from kindly telling someone that they are sorry for the confusion but these are the rules then telling someone to get the fuck out. The manager even lifted up the velvet rope just to threaten us! We were spending almost $1000, that wasn't enough?Everything worked out in the end, and so off we went. The music (on Saturday night) was amazing, and they have these awesome fire dancers. The place itself is beautiful, even the bathrooms are spotless and smell good. I was really unimpressed by the crowd. Since the place has a sophis reputation, I was really expecting them to uphold dress code. I was wrong. I seen girls in there with jean skirts and peasent tops. This isn't the beach, okay? I was felt up by a girl (!!) in a white wife beater, and my sister saw two people straight up having sex next to the bar downstairs! I haven't seen such sleezy behavior since my times in TJ back in the day! Another terrible thing we witness was a woman bartender on the main floor. She was rude, and rolled her eyes at one of the girls in our party because she couldn't decide what drink the get. We made the best of our night, but everyone agreed that that was probably the last time we bring our business back to Club Env
my friend irene had a birthday at ivy and purchased a hotel room there. she hired a vip host and a vip area at envy. the host said we could all get in for free as long as we got there before 10pm. the last girls arrived at 9:45 and the host tried to make everyone pay $20 each. when my friend refused because they had an agreement, he said we could get in for free but we couldn't go into the vip area. they were so rude and it started our night off really badly. when my friend started crying they threatened to kick her out if she didn't stop causing a scene. so if youre planning on having an event there, DON'T! the guys she worked with were TIM and MARK so dont hire them as a host if you do go there! stay away from this place!
I read your comment, so where do you suggest going. My friends and I are looking for a laid-back lounge while we're in town. Help us out.
The customer service there is the worst I have ever scene. It is becoming a ground for ghetto wanna be's and people who have ego's because of how ugly they are on the inside and out. You are treated as if there is the president inside and you are not cool enough to go in and pay money for a drink
Checked out Envy over the weekend and i have to say I had a blast. It was a big place with great music and many attractive women. The line was a bit long, but well worth the wait. It's upbeat sinful-like vibe kept me going all night. It definitely takes more than one night at Envy to really take it all in. Didn't realize there was a rooftop section til i was leaving, but that gives me something to look forward to for next time. Whose down?!?!?!
thursday and saturday are the best days friday is not as busy and saturday is the most crowded. thurs is a great night and friday is good if you like less of a crowd
Does anyone know the best day to go to Envy? Friday or Saturday? I was thinking of checking it out on birthday which is on a Friday....
Really pretty LAME! The surroundings are nice enough, but unfortunately the hype doesn't match the essence. With huge lines promoting a feeling of exclusivitely, that is quickly proven wrong once you get inside. A normal bar crowd of twenty and thirty-somethings all seeming to pretend they're far more important than they really are. Security acts as if you're going to see the president. For all the hype, I kept wondering when I was going to understand why. I never did. The music was great, but people are more concerned with being "seen" than dancing, so it seems utterly wasted. In the ultra lounge people gather attempting to look "cool" enough to be photographed by one of the roaming photographers that seem more like court jesters, in hopes to be posted on the website I suppose. Drinks are overpriced and under poured...and that's if you can get one of the very rude bartenders to serve you. Overall, the ultra lounge and club at Ivy are an unsuccessful attempt at a Vegas style club. Alot of pretention, but no real substance. It was bad enough that valet was $30.00...I'm just glad that I was on the VIP and didn't have to wait in line or pay to get into such a disappointment.
I'm coming to San Diego next with some friends. we're coming in from Phoenix. I'm reading these reviews and want to know where my friends and I should go. We like more of the lounge clubs (laid back real hip-hop). Where will we find that?
I think like anywhere there is going to be some good nights and some nights that aren't "vegas-like". But the bottom line is that as far as San Diego goes I think Envy and the Ivy in general (ultra lounge and Eden) have one of the best crowds. I think it's a pretty awesome mix of people too rather than some of the other decent choices which can seem to be dominated by one "type" of crowd. Other than the expensive Valet service, which if you can't afford you don't have to use, I think it's an awesome place to spend the evening as there is so much variation to enjoy.
If you want to a have big parties in a great atmosphere, Envy is the right club to go, huge club, not too crowded and definitely an adults club.
I just went to Envy last weekend and my friends and I had an amazing time! This place is huge and feels so luxurious! One of the best clubs in SD...I will definitely be back here again soon!
Nice place, rooftop reminds of Las Vegas clubs but the music downstairs on Friday night wasn't that impressive, the techno music gave me nothing but headaches and there were no place to sit anywhere around, my feet was killing me after the night ended.
This place truly is heaven. I love that there's so many different places to go to. You can be in a number of different moods in one night and Envy will satisfy them all. The downstairs dance floor is always happening and the views from the roof are great. It's nice to bring a girl up there on a colder night to get some time alone.
i'm not from the US. i'll stay at Ivy hotel for a few days. heard about the envy club. can anyone tell me about the prices and what does the bottle service mean ? thanks alot.
we got there at 950 door was shut down by 1045 & no one else was allowed in def. NOT WORTH IT!!!!! waste of time go to stingaree instead!!!
Heh, I think you just contradicted yourself. If it's a waste of time why is it so full they're able to shut down the door at 10pm? That's a good sign! Personally, I love it.
I just went to the Ivy last Saturday and it really is an "adult playground". I actually asked the host for a map of the place cause it was so big. Envy was cool though, good music, and not too crowded. Definitely one of the best San Diego clubs i've been to!
What is the crowd generally like friday and saturday night? Is it a mixed crowd? Is there free cover until a certain time for the ladies?
I just went to Envy this friday and I was very very impressed!!!The place is huge and I wish I would of been able to check out the bar on the top floor, but the line for the elevator was long. I went back the next day to take my friends and the line was freaking long! So I think Im just gonna get bottle service now. But this place is only getting bigger!!!
