East Village presents Basic Urban Kitchen and Bar: the bar basics set in a 5000 square foot urban-industrial restaurant lounge setting. Basic combines pizza eats, upscale drinks, alternative special events, and always-unique music. Within the basics, Basic offers three main areas; including the restaurant, bar and dance floor, and posh minimalist lounge. Clean lines, smart design, concrete floors, high ceilings, and industrial décor set the anti-Gaslamp tone of this East Village essential.

 

The urban kitchen menu reflects the minimalism streak that runs throughout the bar. East Coast Pizza creates the one-page menu, with every topping imaginable plus a few salad options. Basic provides the contemporary swank and indie crowd with a new-age neighborhood stomping-ground unlike anything else in San Diego.

This is a really great place to check out in downtown San Diego. It boasts a cool industrial decor which is a unique touch for a bar in Gaslamp and the atmosphere is very laid back. I love coming down here for Happy Hour and having cocktails and indulging in their tasty pizzas.

 Basic is the perfect spot for good drinks, great pizza and unique music

The purposely non-uniformed waiters make it a bit confusing to differentiate between a dude walking to the bar and your server ... but the "small" pizza is big enough to share - and the no cover/no dress code/no fuss attitude is really a breath of fresh air from stuffy Gaslamp venues.
Conclusion

 Grab a pizza at Basic and stay into the night for a beautifully un-Gaslamp evening downtown.

Cool little lounge/restaurant with good food. I recommend you try some of their pizza, it's delicious! There's no dresscode & no cover and it never gets too packed. It has a good atmosphere for mingling or just hanging out friends. Perfect place to check out for dinner before you hit up the clubs.
Conclusion

 If you're hungry and want some good food or just looking for a low key place to hang out Basic has you covered.

Basic ripoff

There is nothing "Basic" about this Gaslamp bar. No matter how you try to ugly the place up, the Gaslamp prices are still there. Just another phony baloney business trying to fool the fools, again...
