Location, location, location is the mantra of the hour, and yet Airport Lounge’s isolated moorings, in an errant district near Little Italy, have only enhanced the lustrous lounge’s popularity. After maintaining a guest-list only patronage during its first weeks open, the lounge opened its doors to San Diego’s most fashionable crowds, who in turn opened their hearts.
Outside, only a rotating arrow announces Airport Lounge’s existence. Inside, the décor is truly unique. Long and lean like an airplane’s cabin, color-changing, oblong windows are projected onto the lounge’s sleek white walls. Cocktail servers wear vintage stewardess uniforms, with go-go boots. Pricey drinks are best sipped out on the patio, where every five minutes or so, planes roar overhead and silence all conversations—a loud, yet enthrallingly unusual experience.
My husband and I arrived with 4 friends...same car. We all had a few drinks on the way up there and my husband was the only one not able to get in the club. He was in no way belligerent or disrespectful. Rico said he saw him stagger. Truth or not why did he let other people in that were being loud and obnoxious in line to get in?? They seemed to have some drinks in em'! That wasn't fair I thought. Anyway I chose to stay outside for 3 hours with my husband, had no choice since we didnt drive and our friends were especially there for a b-day party. We didnt want to ruin there night.
i love that the Airport Lounge was off-the-beaten path of your typical San Diego bar or club. it was a refreshing change from Downtown and PB. I felt like I was in a music video with all the hot people and unique setting. the employee uniforms also contribute to the vibe.
I’m a bit jaded when it comes to fun places, but the Airport Lounge kinda did it for me. Had a little difficulty finding the place, but when I finally got there, I was somewhat amused by the airline getup of the staff. The food was a bit pricey, but definitely worth every cent. Definitely a far better place than an actual airport lounge.
If you want to go out and have a fun time this is the place you want to go. The music is always great, the drinks are tasty and the staff is friendly. They have a great indoor and outdoor enviornment, you can watch the planes fly right over. Very fun place to go.
Drinks are tasty...but then again something must make up for the lack of personality and denseness of the crowd. I believe the bartenders can hold their own...but the men in suits (managers and bouncers this means you lads) should take a hint from the international setting and learn how to read people and LAWS! If you like to be grabbed by a bouncer because you were served a drink right at "lights on" and asked to leave a minute later...then physiaclly pushed out the door...this place is for you. If not...time to travel on crew! And, if you are the ABC Board...you should definitely stop by and assess the validity of such blarney.
