This year, Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack falls on Thursday, July 17. With just over two weeks to go, it’s time to focus our fashion efforts on finding the perfect statement headpiece. Here’s your guide to trunk shows, shopping events and hat-making classes leading up to the most glamorous day of the year.

Rancho Valencia’s Savor & Style Luncheon – Tuesday, July 8

Styling for Del Mar Opening Day extends well beyond the hat. A well-prepped party-goer must consider the entire ensemble. Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa hosts this “Savor & Style” luncheon and fashion show highlighting the summer’s trends for the track. Designers featured will include Sky, Chan Luu, Free People, Michael Kors and Love and Liberty, as well as custom hats by Studio Savvy, Flora Bella and Kakyco.

Jill Courtemanche Trunk Show - Thursday, July 10

Fashion-forward ladies of the track, take note. Jill Courtemanche Millinery is teaming up with RICA Boutique in La Jolla for this afternoon affair, combining the California-chic styles of RICA with elegant hand-made hats from Jill’s extravagant collection. Jill will be in attendance to help fashionistas choose the perfect topper to match their dress and get fitted for a fabulous day at the races. Additionally, guests can schedule private hat-making lessons with Jill for small groups interested in crafting their own creations.

Del Mar Hat Co. Opening Day Showcase - July 11, 12, 13

Award-winning designer Carol Bader will showcase her stunning hats and headpieces in the Del Mar Hat Co. studio with informal modeling throughout the weekend. From head-turning women’s fascinators to an expanded men’s collection, the assortment offers ready-to-wear and one-of-a-kind custom pieces.

Arturo Rios' Trunk Show at The Village Hat Shop – Saturday, July 12

This year, The Village Hat Shop hosts their 5th annual trunk show featuring the daring designs of Arturo Rios. Arturo is a distinguished milliner known for high-fashion, avant-garde headpieces, fascinators and wide brim hats worn by exclusive clients and celebrities such as Katy Perry and Tyra Banks. Meet Arturo at the Hillcrest store as he shows off his spring/summer collections. Complimentary champagne and wine, along with a runway show, bring extra glam to the afternoon.
