Pull out those cowboy boots, ladies and gents. Coyote Ugly Saloon has just announced they’ll be stomping up a storm right here in San Diego.
Set to open on February 5 in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter – 820 Fifth Ave., replacing Frauds and Swindlers – the bar, restaurant and entertainment venue will be the brand’s first Southern California location out of its current 23 that span five countries.
The original Coyote Ugly opened more than 20 years ago in New York by Liliana “Lil” Lovell. Lil’s vision in 1993 was to create a lively western-themed spot where bartenders did more than serve drinks; they performed dance routines on top of the bar and incorporated guests into the experience. In 2000, a film based on the New York location “Coyote Ugly” brought added attention to Lil’s burgeoning brand, with the help of stars like Piper Perabo, Tyra Banks and LeAnn Rimes’ hit song on the soundtrack, “Can’t Fight the Moonlight.” The movie went on to gross over $100 million worldwide and establish Coyote Ugly as one of the most popular bars in the world.
In San Diego, Lil plans to recreate the signature Coyote Ugly experience, and that means getting local ladies to jump up on the bar and join the show. Think you have what it takes? Bartender auditions will take place on January 25 and 26 from noon to 5 p.m. All applicants must be at least 21 and apply in person wearing closed-toed shoes, or preferably, boots.
“We are in search of girls who can keep a beat, pour a drink, and look good doing it,” said Lovell. “Our bartenders are known for making the customers a part of the Coyote Ugly experience. So, the right applicants will have a wide range of talents such as flair bartenders, dancers, singers, musicians and comedians. This is a once in a lifetime chance to work in the world’s most well-known bar and we are ready to rock the Gaslamp!”
Beyond the dancing and drinking, Coyote Ugly will serve a gastropub menu with full pizza kitchen. More details to be announced soon.
