It’s hard to deny that San Diego lifestyle is codependent on quality swimwear. Surfers, beach-frolickers and pool party revelers won’t get far without their stylish suit. Find yours at these San Diego swimwear boutiques.
Sauvage Boutique – La Jolla
Luxury swimwear meets the SoCal sands at Sauvage. Native San Diegan and designer Elizabeth Southwood is the brains behind the two lines carried in the boutique: edgy and playful looks with Sauvage Beachwear and a conservative, elegant approach with Luxe by Sauvage. For spring and summer 2013, Southwood drew from prints and textures found around the world. You’ll spot Asian fusion designs with silk cover-ups and flowing kimonos; South America represented in a rainforest color palette; and Bali captured in a blue and white batik print. Men’s surf shorts and swim trunks are on hand as well. (Main Image)

Gone Bananas – Mission Beach
With humble beginnings in 1975, Gone Bananas launched as a simple swimsuit dream. Now, it stands as a staple in local beachwear, currently operating out of its 2,500 square foot location just steps off the boardwalk in Mission Beach. Catered towards a younger beach-bum demographic, the store flaunts a 15,000 piece collection of women’s suits, cover-ups and accessories available year-round. Designers include Luli Fama, L *Space, Body Glove, Billabong, Juicy Couture, ViX and Brazilian designer Despi.

Julie’s Beachwear – Del Mar
In 1994, Julie Zozaya founded Julie’s Beachwear, inspired by a life lived entirely on the coast of Southern California. Zozaya began by understanding that swimwear needs to be glamorous, but it also needs to fit every woman. The Del Mar shop - which has an ocean view from the dressing rooms - features a unique compilation of international lines alongside local designers. Suit up in Aqua Bendita and Saha from Columbia or Boys & Arrows, Beach Riot (pictured left) and Michelle Jonas made right here in the California sun.

Kapreeza European Lingerie & Swimwear Specialty Shop – Little Italy
Just as you’d expect on the streets of Little Italy, Kapreeza brings a European-influenced assortment of swimwear, beach clothing and lingerie. Renata Carlseen opened her boutique in 2009 after finding dissatisfaction with the fit and quality of swimwear in America. Kapreeza – meaning “spoiled little girl” in Russian – sets out to pamper every woman with high-quality, long-lasting fabrics and fits. Slip into the vibrantly colored beach bikinis, a silver and gold collection with hand-sewn crystal embellishments or tropical safari designs that mix animal and floral prints. The brands are exclusively sold in Kapreeza.
