San Diego bass heads know Porter Robinson well; at just 20-years-old, the electro-house DJ/producer has spun a multitude of shows across the city, from Wavehouse to Sports Arena. Our familiarity is thanks to LED Presents, the progressive event production group that is bringing Robinson back to San Diego for a double-header this week.
In September, Robinson and Zedd kicked off their North American summer tour, which stopped through Florida, Massachusetts and New York before heading west. Poseidon: The Back to Back Tour cruised down the California coast in October, with headlining shows in Santa Cruz, Hollywood and Santa Ana.
Robinson and Zedd, along with Nick Thayer, are kicking off the San Diego run with a 16+ show at Petco Park, followed by a more intimate set for the 21+ at Voyeur on Thursday, October 11.
LED Presents has brought a handful of huge EDM shows to Petco Park in partnership with Live Nation, with acts ranging from Deadmau5 to Avicii and Skrillex. The dance music concerts do not take place within the stadium, but rather at Park at the Park -- the grassy area located behind the outfield.
LED will keep the momentum going through fall with a pre-Halloween party, also at Park at the Park, featuring Afrojack, Bobby Burns and RL Grime on Saturday, Oct. 27. Check out more 2012 Halloween parties.
This summer, Robinson was named one of Billboard’s Top 21 Under 21 -- an annual list that spotlights the music industry’s most promising young artists. And Robinson wasn’t the only EDM artist to make the cut; 18-year-old French electronic DJ/producer Madeon landed the #19 spot, with Robinson at #7, topped by boy band One Direction at #2 and Justin Bieber at #1.
The rising star DJ/producer spent his first two years in the game touring the international festival circuit. He may not be old enough to legally drink in the U.S., but Robinson has already made his mark at Coachella, Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, Electric Daisy Carnival and Electric Zoo. The underage artist also scored residencies at XS and Surrender in Las Vegas.
Robinson’s first single “Say My Name” reached the #1 spot on Beatport’s electro house chart in 2011, and the 2012 track “Language” followed suit, keeping the young talent top of mind on Beatport and the iTunes dance chart. His Lady Gaga and Avicii remixes are also held in high regard.
Thursday, Oct. 11, 8:30 – 11:30 p.m. at Petco Park; 11:30 p.m. – 2 a.m. at Voyeur
Tickets are still available for the 16+ show at Park at the Park, starting at $35 -- mylifeeveryday.com
