Travel + Leisure magazine released a list of the most attractive cities in America. And it’s no big surprise that San Diego got the national recognition it deserves.
Part of the annual America’s Favorite Cities survey, T+L readers rated 35 metropolitan areas on an array of qualities, ranging from people-watching, to public transportation, cocktail bars and even ethnic food.
Southern California is known for beautiful weather and beautiful people. Maybe it’s the proximity to Hollywood that raises the standard for health and fitness. Or perhaps our endless summer mentality and year-round swimwear dress code has something to do with it. Whatever the reason may be, we look good, and all of our hard work is paying off. T+L readers voted San Diego the #2 city for attractive people in the U.S., coming in behind Miami. Also in the top five for attractiveness are San Juan, P.R., Charleston and Los Angeles.
But San Diego is more than just a pretty face! The city we call home also ranked well in such categories as weather, friendliness, intelligence, cocktail lounges, singles scene, free attractions, indie boutiques and of course, microbreweries. T+L readers also chimed in on the best time of year to visit San Diego, and top rankings include 4th of July, Spring Break and Valentine’s Day.
A few more fun facts about American cities:
New Orleans: #1 singles scene
Portland, OR: #1 microbrew beer
Las Vegas: #1 cocktail lounges
Nashville: #1 friendly people
Portland, ME: #1 safety
San Francisco: #1 gay-friendly

The final America’s Favorite Cities survey results are divided into two lists, visitor picks and resident picks, with rankings varying between the two. Check out the full results online at travelandleisure.com
