TEDxSanDiegoreturns to Irwin Jacobs Qualcomm Hall on Saturday, December 1 for its third annual conference. From 9am to 5pm, 600 minds exploring the theme “Cause & Affect” will join together to educate, enlighten and inspire.
During TEDxSanDiego, guests will be encouraged to affect the world by 20 dynamic speakers and performers, including two local San Diegans. They represent a large span of fields, from technology to education and the arts. This local, self-organized event provides a participatory forum where presenters and attendees can connect, exchanging big ideas and sharing plans of action.
Among the group of speakers is local Ann Marie Houghtailing, Principal of The Houghtailing Group. With humor and energy, she will discuss being a single mother of two sons and the challenges of raising them into stand-out men. Alan Brown, another local selected as a TEDxSanDiego speaker, will share his insight into adults struggling with ADHD and his strategies to help them live a successful life.
More speakers at this year’s TEDxSanDiego will include Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D., an assistant and translator to the Dalai Lama for two decades talking about cultivating compassion; Dr. Edith Eva Eger, Ph.D., an Auschwitz survivor who is now a prolific author sharing on the gift of forgiveness; Steve Wampler of the Wampler Foundation, the first man with cerebral palsy to climb the largest rock face in the world; and Unknown Lyric, a musical duo on violin and acoustic guitar that create cutting-edge sounds where urban meets Beethoven.
The theme of “Cause & Affect” was chosen so that speakers and participants of TEDxSanDiego could analyze how to make a positive difference in the community and the world. Attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to hear from these ground-breaking minds, as well as interact with other participants through stimulating activities.
TED originally started 25 years ago as a four-day conference in California, and has now grown into a massive effort in supporting world-changing ideas. The annual TED Conference has included speakers such as Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. TEDx events bring the same concept to cities across the world through local, self-organized forums.
