If your sights are already set on the winter holidays, it’s time to slow your roll and take it one special occasion at a time. We know that giving can feel just as good as receiving, which is why we invite you to do a little bit of both at this year’s 4th Annual Industry Night Thanksgiving Can Drive hosted by Side Bar and yours truly, DiscoverSD.com.
This Turkey Day-inspired celebration will take place on Wednesday, November 21st with hot beats all night courtesy of DJ Scooter. Where does the “giving” come into play, you ask? Anyone who brings in at least 6 canned items will get hooked up with a hosted bar from 8-9pm and free entry before 11pm. All donated canned goods will go to Mama’s Kitchen to help those in need.
At last year’s can drive, giving guests filled three large bins worth of canned food for Mama’s Kitchen. This year, Side Bar is hoping to top that. Over one-third of the food that stocks Mama’s Kitchen’s pantry shelves come from food drives just like this. They served 769 individuals (92,359 meal equivalents) through their Pantry in 2011.
Development Manager of Mama's Kitchen Aimee Halfpenny recognizes the importance of the Thanksgiving Indutry Night. “Side Bar’s ongoing partnership with Mama’s Kitchen has been invaluable," she said. "These donations will help us ensure that we can continue our mission of providing the basic necessity of life – nutritious food – and help our clients experience a consistent dependable source of food and not worry about where their next meal is coming from.”
Mama's Kitchen delivers three nutritional meals a day, seven days a week at no charge to men, women and children living with AIDS or cancer. Additionally, Mama's Kitchen provides pantry services (Mama's Pantry) to people affected by AIDS. Through these services, they are able to provide food, compassion and hope to over 1,300 people annually living throughout San Diego County.
