4th Annual St. Baldrick's Shave-a-Thon

Not everyone can look good with a shaved head. Fortunately, everyone can look like a hero.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation, one of the nation’s leading contributors to childhood cancer research returns to take our tresses at the 4th Annual Shave-a-Thon. On Saturday, March 10th, Quality Social will transform into a good ol’ fashioned barber shop for the event that buzzes heads towards an important cause. From 12:30pm to 4pm, willing participants can head in, raise funds, get their head shaved, and make donations to the foundation that holds Shave-a-Thons worldwide. The bald heads popping up in the community will shine for solidarity with children undergoing cancer treatment.

This worldwide Shave-a-Thon has had huge success in head buzzing participation. Last year, more than 45,300 shavees contributed to the cause. And ladies were flaunting a bald-is-beautiful look, as well, with over 17,400 women participating in the 1,000 plus Shave-a-Thons worldwide.

“The growing support behind the event’s first three years demonstrates San Diego’s commitment to this very important cause,” said Jake Pescatello, founder of St. Baldrick’s San Diego chapter. “Over the past three years, we’ve raised over $50,000, and this year we have set the bar even higher with a goal of raising $30,000!”

Are you ready to shave it all? More than just a beauty statement, the head shaving celebration generates awareness, funds research for childhood cancer and helps survivors live long and healthy lives all through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Become a shavee by clicking “participate at the event” at stbaldricks.org.

Emceeing the event will be Channel 933 hosts Frankie V. and SONIC. San Diego hair salon sponsor The Factory will be taking the lead in all hair matters. Aside from the lovely locks shedding to the floor, the afternoon will also include a silent auction with prizes ranging from relaxing spa treatments to two-night stays at Southern California luxury hotels. A $10 donation at the door includes admission to the event and complimentary appetizers. A $20 donation includes appetizers, a free drink ticket, T-shirt, and raffle ticket. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Drink up: New this year is the St. Baldrick’s cocktail, aptly called “The Baldrick”. Made with Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Square One Cucumber Organic Vodka, lime juice and simple syrup, the cocktail boasts a hint of St. Baldrick’s green colors. “The Baldrick” will donate a portion of its proceeds to the foundation throughout the entire month of March, so you can drink up for a worthy cause.

Sneak Peek:Before the head shaving begins, St. Baldrick’s and Quality Social are inviting San Diego to “Share a Little Love” with their pre-Valentine’s Day sign up event. On Thursday, February 9th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, head into Quality Social where those interested in participating can sign up, learn more, and receive fundraising tips. Passed appetizers and happy hour priced drinks will be available.
